If you mean making a copy from the automatic document feeder check the slit glass (the thin narrow glass beside the big platen glass) for debris, white out, dirt, etc... a small dot on that glass will make a line on the copy.

How do you print on both sides?

you would need an additional tray to do it completely auto. It has to dump the first runs somewhere before doing the 2nd side.

if you have a lot of pages, you can reload them into the main feed tray.

I have a grey/black line all the way down the right hand side of the page

Run a half test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray.
Print something, anything
When the paper is 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.
Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper.
Does it have a black line on the right side?
If yes, replace the cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

Hummer sound and one page print an then stop printing

There could be a wide range of caused for the problem being seen, a few things worth trying are;

Try printing the HELP page on the printer, this is a menu page and will demonstrate if the printer can print ok, if the printer prints the HELP page correctly the problem is likely to be 'data related'
The help page gan be printed in the following way;
  1. Place the printer OFFLINE
  2. Press the MENU button
  3. Press the DOWN ARROW repeatedly until HELP is shown of the display
  4. Press ENTER
  5. The printer should then print out a menu page containing a number columns of settings.
If the printer prints the Help Page Correctly this strongly suggests the problem is data or settings related.

It may be worth trying printing from another system / application to see if the problem may be related to one document or system.

Some settings you may wish to check on the printer are;

Emulation -Ensure this is set to match the host system setup

Auto LF- You may need to turn Auto LF (auto line feed) on if the system is only outputting Carriage Return Commands and no Form Feed Commands

Bi-Dir - If the printer is connected via the Parallel Interface you may need to disable Bi-Directional communication for the parallel interface.

Further investigation may need to be carried out to identify the cause of the problem

If the printer is not able to print the help page, this indicates a hardware problem with the printer.

If the printer prints the help page but not the document, this indicates a Driver / Settings / Communication type problem which requires investigation.

Leaving black streaks down paper? Ink cartridge

If this started after cartridge was replaced, then it is probably defective.

Take the cartridge out and take a look at the print head. Clean the print head.
Put the cartridge back in
Try and feed paper (not printing anything on it, if you can not get it to just feed paper, print a blank page) and see if it still has lines. If so, you are probably going to have to clean ink from inside the paper feed area. If not, try using it for a while and if it starts again, get a replacement cartridge. You might want to save some of the bad prints to show the clerk and try to get the new cartridge under warranty.

1. turn the power off
2. hold the feed button down
3. turn power on, the feed button should blink, release the button.
4. when the feed button blinks green, press and hold until it turns red or amber. release the button.
5. turn the power off.
6. hold down the feed button and turn power on, the button should blink and release. it will now print a calibration page. 4 blanks followerd by 2 text pages, the last saying "Now in DUMP" press feed to exit. on the first print, the 4th line down will say either page mode or line mode.

Dell printer

You can try cleaning the feed rollers and manually clean the ink cartridge carrier contacts. The issue may also be the encoder which is a narrow band of transparent plastic behind the ink cartridge carriers. Try to clean this. Be careful as this can break easily.
