HP Pavilion MD5020N 50 in. HDTV DLP TV keeps shutting down

My tv will stay on for anwhere from 1-5 minutes and then turn itself off. It will keep doing this over and over again. Up for a few minutes and then with no reason, turn off again. Any suggestions to how i can fix it?

I have the same problem with a MD5820N tv. The TV has been fine for 3 years, now the screen jitters for a few seconds and turns off. The blue light blinks slowly a few times, then it turns back on. This repeats several times, then the TV operates normally. This typically happens soon after starting the TV. HP's telephone help desk is no help -- they just want to sell me a service plan!

OMG...I have the same problem as jwbower. Mine is also been 3 years and now the screen kinda flikers and then it just shut off by itself. A few seconds later, the blue light came one and the TV turns on by itself again but there is no picture and only the sound is on. I had to unplug...wait for 30 seconds and same problem happens after the TV was on for a few hours. At first I thought it was the lamp needs to be replaced but there is no red light signal. :(

Ok this is what you do folks.... un-plug the tv from the power supply. once that is done hold the power button down on the side of the television for 30 seconds. this will release all electricity out of the tv.... then before you plug it back in hold the channel down vol up button along with the power button at the side on the tv this should reset the tv and it will start up automatically on video one. Select your source and scan for your cable channels again. If the problem is not solved then contact someone to come and clean the filter for the tv because it may be clogged along with this it can be the color wheel and may shut itself off like 3 times until it feels it is right.

my problem was that the right backside of my television was getting really hot. T.V would eventually turn off with no warning. I came to the conclusion that the television was shutting down because it was over heating on the right backside of the set. In order to solve this problem i had to improvise a solution. I used an extra space heater that functions in three different settings, high, low, and fan. then, I plugged the heater in and placed it facing outwards from the overheating right end of the television set. Now the space heater acts as a fan that blows out the hot air that causes the shut down. You should be able to feel the hot air coming out of the heater even though its set on fan.

Part number 75.95Z02.002A TV model number md5020n

I suggest checking on the AVS Forum (in specific threads for HP DLP TVs). If you cannot fix that TV for any reason, please let me know, since I am in need of other parts from the same TV. In that case, kindly contact me md5020n (at) garmonland (dot) com. Thanks!

Pavilion MD5020N 50 in. HDTV DLP TV: where to find a lamp for the md5820...

Check on the AVS Forum. There is a thread related to this TV. There are still new lamps to be had around (sometimes on ebay), but there are a number of "relamping" companies around, but I'd carefully check for reviews that mention long-term successful replacements from any of them.

What happens when one turns the HP MD5020N on without bulb in

If the lamp cover is not in place, the set will have no power, so you cannot turn it on. If you put the cover in place without the bulb, the set will start to turn on, realize it has no bulb, turn off and flash some LEDs on the front to indicate its extreme displeasure with the situation. If that's all that's wrong with it, get a bulb; it's a great TV, although virtually impossible to repair these days (except the bulb).

My HP MD5020N 50 in. HDTV DLP TV has a broken color wheel. Where can I find a replacement?

HP might be able to fix it, but it might cost as much as a new LCD screen of similar size. Maybe find another TV to salvage it from? Not sure if you can use the md5820 color wheel as well, since that's also a 720P set -- the one on the 1080P sets is supposedly different. In most of these sets that are broken, the color wheel is the failing part, and they're getting rarer (and are virtually impossible to acquire anywhere -- HP will simply replace the entire "light engine" -- and probably try to rebuild the old one and give it to someone else). Best of luck.

Hewitt Packard high definition DLP tv Product #EX543AA#ABA need part, hp no longer carries them.

I have a brand new L2114a lamp for sale. I paid 299 plus shipping on ebay but it turned out to be the wrong one (despite what the manual says). I ordered the correct one I needed from HP. I am willing to part with it for 200. I can send pictures of the lamp and the box and the reciept. This is a BRAND NEW LAMP.

This lamp works in the following televisions and replaces the lamps listed below:
HP Pavilion md5020n 50-inch High Definition DLP TV L1735A
HP Pavilion md5820n 58-inch High Definition DLP TV L1736A
HP Pavilion md6580n 65-inch High Definition DLP TV L1737A
