This is the menus that you get when you boot from the CD:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

When you run the Startup Repair from your Vista CD you get that error "No OS files found on disk."correct?
Instead of choosing the Startup Repair option try the System Restore option and see if i allows you to take the computer back to another day ,if it gives you an error then choose the other option that says Command Prompt ,it will load to a blinking white cursor.
Type in the following and press Enter key after each one:
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
When finished Restart the computer and see if it will load normally.

If it doesnt resolve it then it could be a hardware problem on the laptop itself.

How to install windows 7 on acer aspire 1640

Maybe the Vista drivers will do. If the Win & drivers are not listed, then more than likely the vista drives are compatible.

Hi My Acer Netbook cant seem to start windows, i have tried going through all the safe modes, and it wont even get to that! It starts to load windows but then everhthing just goes blank!

Your netbook may have been infected by a virus and has stopped your computer from working.
If you can boot up with the Windows installation CD and do a repair then it may get your computer operating again.
If not you need to boot up with the Windows installation CD, then delete the existing partition, create a new partition and format the hard disk (not a quick format), then complete the Windows installation.
then install the Acer netbook device drivers and your programs.

Download the device drivers from the Acer WEB site. Makesure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require thatmatches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link toget to the Acer support: -

I cant get my computer to operate in windows normal mode and i cant get to reboot to originao settings acer 5738z, i bought a recovery disc but cant even get this to load as can nly have laptop on in...

I believe you should try LKGC (Last Known Good configuration) before using a recovery disc.

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.

Password

is this a bios password (you enter on a black screen with white writing) or your windows logon password.

If its your windows logon reboot, and before the windows logo appears hold F8 for safe mode. at the logon prompt clear the user and type Administrator for the use and leave the password blank. From there you can go to the control panel and clear the user's password.

Logon

Go into your BIOS
Set the 1st Boot device preference to CD
Insert your windows XP disk
Boot from CD
Run XP Repair

You do this at your own risk. I am in no way accountable for damage to your computer.
