Magellan Roadmate 700 GPs - RF antenna disconnect

satellite acquisition takes several minutes with good line of sight to the sky, assuming the unit dose see at least 1 satellite in the sky this would mean theirs issues with the internal antenna or the receiver is malfunctioning, when you said opened up the new unit i assume you disconnected the small connectors, maybe one is not fully conencted or the wire became disconnected during reasembly. theirs alsoa chance the unit has to be reset.

Install this update and take out into a clear, open area to create initial SAT contact. This will set your location and map sat locations closest to you.

it goes thru the cylinder it keeps it from vibrating off and touching other parts in the unit

Try GPS data reset. At user screen push the zoom out key and repeat button at the same time. Select Reset GPS data. This will reset the GPS settings. If after this you are still not getting any signal then you may have a loose RF cable inside your unit. If you feel comfortable opening up your unit and making sure the grey or black cable going from the big (main board) board to the board attached to the rear housing, then do that. Of course this is at your own risk. If you still get nothing after that, it may have something to do with your antenna, which you'll need to take off prior to opening your unit. Turn the antenna all the way out (past perpindicular to the unit) and pull straight out. make sure the connector isn't bent. Keep me updated if anything changes. _Daniel

Your probably right about it still not working even after the 5.32 upgrade. Although it could be the software, so try resetting GPS user data. Enter into the "secret" menu by pressing the zoom out key and the repeat button while at the beginning user menu. select reset GPS data.. If it's nothing to do with software, check your antenna and make sure none of the pins inside the connection are bent.. or the RF cable inside could be gashed/cut.. bent up.. do you hear a rattle when you shake your unit?

open up your unit, careful when opening as the RF cable will be tight in between the boards. make sure there is nothing banging around in the unit.. (shake it and listen).. if yes then investigate and report back. if no, then make sure all the cables you can see are tight. especially concentrate on the RF cable.. long cable.. either black/carbon fiber or grey cable. One more place to check is your antenna, (which you'll have to take off before you open up your unit, so do this first) yea jut make sure the antenna is on the unit tightly. Also try resetting user data. + and repeat button at user menu, then select reset GPS data. -Daniel

Josh, The grey cable that you see (sometimes it comes in a black woven cable as well) as soon as you open up your unit has to be connected to the main board in the corner. Additionally on the I/O card or GPS board (the board that's attached to the rear cover) has to be connected as well. If you see any loose cables and you find a place it fits, plug it in. So, the answer to your question is yes, that could be the problem. -Daniel

If out of warranty time frame, open her up and check the grey cables that you will notice right after you crack the case. Make sure the cable is un damaged and connects to the main board (the big one) to the I/O board (attached to rear housing). If no change, then try resetting GPS user data. At User Menu (after reboot), press "-" key and repeat key at the same time. select reset GPS user data and cross your fingers. -Daniel
