OS is Windows XP (SP 3)
Current display adapter NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 with VGA & s-video outputs.
CPU Pentium 4 2GHz
Several vacant USB 2.0 ports
It all depends on the inputs of your TV, you can purchase an adaptor for Svideo to regular RCA (Yellow-Video,red,white-Audio),or VGA to RCA, but you wont get HD, the best solution is to upgrade your video card to one with a DVI output, then get a DVI to HDMI adapter and make sure the video card is HD capable if you want the feature, if you just want an output so you have the use as a primary monitor if you go hear

The second link seems to be a VGA to Composite (Red,Blue,Green), which would provide a better picture or resolution. that is how to hook up your PC to you TV for use as a monitor, with your existing setup, svideo doesnt provide audio either, so you would need to get an adaptor for your speakers from Mini 1/4" to rca and only connect the red and white, left and right,to the same input as the svide if you just want to go that way and have 2 monitors
Please leave me a good rating if this helped, all I can do is try, thanks for the question.
If your video card has DVI or HDMI outputs then u are home free and can take advantage of this HD monitor, if not then you are out of luck, it will just be a low resolution connection but it will work. You can install the new HD ready video card if you want to upgrade the system.
Have you installed the driver that came with BenQ in your computer?

Have not purchased the BenQ monitor or installed the driver yet. The intention is to replace an ageing CRT monitor. Would like to be able to watch movies, edit photos, but I'm not a gamer. I imagine there are 3 possibilities. 1. Buy a display adapter with a dvi output, but which one is suitable?. 2. Connect to a USB port. Is this possible and is the performance Ok? 3. Connect using monitors d-sub input but what port on the computer?
Thanks emmissionwiz. My video card does up to 1792x1344, has vga & s-video outputs. Which would U use?
On top of the response from emissionwiz, you gave the precise detailed I required. Thanks gomez73.
