Black mold growing on gray rubber boot inside door.

I have a Frigidaire front load washer that I purchased late 2006. The gray rubber boot inside of the door has developed a black mold that will not come off. I have tried straight bleach on it several times, but it does nothing to remove the black spots. I use the washer daily, and have never had this problem before. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the mold and how to prevent it in the future?
Thank you,
Patty

O.K., but do you have any ideas on how to get rid of the mold that is there?
    Thanks.

Leave washer door slightly ajar after use to air out any moisture. Should prevent any future mold.

Wash thoroughly with hot soap and detergent, and wipe dry. When the area cleaned is dry, apply an application of a fungicide. Although bleach will kill mold on the surface, if it is deeply embedded, bleach will typically evaporate before reaching the source. It should also be kept in mind that bleach produces chemicals that molds feed on.

    Hope this helps

check the door boot just inside the door for dark spots on the gray rubber boot and the drain hole in the boot it can grow mold where the water stands in it from previous washings and this mold will smell like raw sewage from all the soap and softener that aids in mold growth

There is mold around the rubber and in the inside of the rubber on my Front Load. How can I get rid of this? Is there a product to clean front load washers?

Hi.

The mold is an enzime from the washing detergent or softener. It attacks certain rubbers and causes them to turn black. Eventually it will cause a musty smell which will go on the clothes.

The only way to remove is by replacing the door seal.
If you try bleach etc then it will cause the mold to get worse.

Hope this helps

Black mold on washer door seal

this is a very common problem with the neptune washers.
use a javex and hot water solution and scrub the rubber boot.
you should also do an acid wash. (hot wash with bleach, and no clothes) if there is mold on the boot it is inside the washer as well.

There is a way to prevent this. when the washer is not in use, hang a small towl on the washer door, and do not close the door.
this will allow for air movement in the washer

Frigidaire Front load washer mold

LEAVING DOOR OPEN BETWEEN USES ALLOWS WASHER TO BREATHE. BEING A CLOSED SYSTEM, IT'S KIND OF LIKE PUTTING A TUPPERWARE LID ON A BOWL WITH RESIDUE AND MOISTURE INSIDE AND LETTING IT GROW.

Black mold growing on rubber gasket and under rubber gasket in Whirlpool Duet front loading Washer

The solution? Plain old bleach.
Scrub rubber seal on door. Run the bleach through the machine once a month to keep clean.

Keep door open after each wash to ensure that it dries out properly.

Rubber Seal Holds Mold!

This is a problem that seems to show up on almost every front-loading washer due to the design of the rubber boot that attaches to the front of the machine. It is extremely important to wipe down the rubber after usage but even this doesn't always help. There are a couple of products out there that claim to get rid of the mold and smell, something called Purewasher that you could look up on www.smellywasher.com and also something that whirlpool sells for this purpose.
