Panasonic DMR-ES15 Hi guys, Was recording to DVD and the next day went to play the DVD but an error message saying something similar to "information was lost and disk removal will loose information, press enter". Now regardless of what type of DVD is inserted or even if no disk is inserted the player noisily tries to load the disk and eventually says "no read". Any suggestions would be great.

I'm having a similar problem, error message U61 keeps showing up. The problem started after buying some different disks than I usually used, (Memorex +R) so got some more Sony (-R) which have always worked perfectly before but the problem now persists.

I've cycled it through Self Checking 100 times with disks inserted and not, blank and not, recorded and not, no luck. I've unplugged it for hours, no luck.

Disks recorded before problem: about 450 over 6 months. Not bad but a far cry from the performance I thought I'd get from this unit.

Interesting. I experienced this problem after trying to record to a +R DVD (same as PanaFan777). I've unplugged it, I've called panasonic who says send it in for service. It's 13 mos old so out of warranty and will cost me $130 to fix it from Panasonic. Any other ideas?

Just unplug it and let it sit for half an hour. Then try playing the lens cleaner disc, the problem would be fixed....

Hello.
I had a similar problem with my DMR-ES15 a little over 2 years ago, and, I too, could not find a solution. I resorted to sending it off to Panasonic for their 'out of warrantee' repair, for a hefty price. (I could have bought new, but really liked the features of the ES15.) Panasonic repaired it, and it worked well for another 2 years. Just recently, 3 weeks ago, it died it's second death, with the same issue. I wish I had a solution for both of us, but it seems it is a failure which cannot be repaired by the consumer. I had seen a previous post, which has a suggestion of looking for '2 failed capacitors', but no other information, not even where these capacitors are located in the machine. I enterd a post myself, but have received so solutions/suggestions, and I don't even see my post on this site anymore. I'm a little disappointed with 'Fixya'...
If I find any new information, I'll be sure to post it.

It sounds like the DVD-RAM drive is about dead. Panasonic did not make them to be very durable.

Panasonic sells replacements at a high cost.

Replacement drives may work from used models including:
DMR-ES15
DMR-ES25
DMR-ES45
DMR-ES46

With a soft cloth, clean the 'hole' area of a DVD that you know worked in the past. Sometimes oils from our fingers get on the disc and then the disk can't spin properly. If the problem persists, open the case and look for two failed capacitors. (See similar solutions on this website.)

DMR-ES15 Stops after 45 Min.

U88 means the unit has detected an error while recording or playing and has entered its recovery process to restore the unit to normal operation. You could try using a DVD-RAM disk or a different make of DVD-R but, as you say the unit is new, you should probably return it to the retailer for exchamge, repair or refund according to unit age and retailer's return policy.

Model No'DMR-ES15 - U61problem

I get this message occasionally on my Panasonic DMR-ES15. It's actually a really simple fix. It occurs when there is a corruption in the disc which causes the recording mechanism to malfunction. There is a separate error message for this, however it is usually not detected until it's too late. When the recorder asks you to carry out the recovery process, do it. When the disc ejects, make sure you take the disc out that was in there when it occured and throw it away...it will keep happening because the disc is permanently corrupted. However, do not close the tray without a disc or the self-check will fail. Instead pop in a disc of the same format that the error occured in (if it was DVD+RW then put in a DVD+RW). It resolves the problem every time on the first try. (It only happened two times in a year and a half for me). As the manual says the unit is "NOT BROKEN".
