You have two options. If you normally transfer your photos by connecting your camera to your computer, remove the memory card before making the connection. This will allow the computer to see the photos in the camera's internal memory.
If you normally transfer your photos by putting the memory card into a card reader, use the Backup command in the Settings-1 menu to transfer the photos from the camera's internal memory to the memory card, then transfer the photos from the card to the computer as normal. See page 48 of this manual: http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/TG-610_TG-310_Instruction_Manual_EN.pdf

You can transfer the photos directly from the camera to the PC using the USB cable that came with the camera. You don't need to transfer the pics to memory card first.
Connect the cable to the camera and the PC. Turn on the camera and your PC will recognise it as an external storage device. Use the PC's software to transfer the photos from camera to PC.
Once you have the pics on the PC you can use the Olympus Master software included with the camera to edit and archive the photos on the PC.

I'm afraid there isn't away to do this for free. Olympus sells a program for image workflow and editing called Studio 2 that will also allow you to shoot tethered to your computer. It is $100. They are offering a free trial on the Olympus site: OLYMPUS Studio.
I also found an independent developer who made a small program to shoot tethered called E-Capture. It's only $10 and may be what you need. This is a link to his blog where he describes it in greater detail and where to get it.

Hope this helps
SOURCE: memory card cannot read by digital camera.
Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup - go to format option- You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.
