When i turn on my tecra 8100 it says insert system disk i don't have a system disk

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Have you checked to make sure that your Hard Drive is properly seated. The screws are generally located on the bottom of the laptop with an icon or a symbolic letter "HDD" "D" "S"

Often times these screws become loose and the drive does not seat well. You would have that message.

Did anything strange happen the last time it worked properly? Anything that would indicate that it is a software issue? PC slowed down, Pop ups while not in a browser?

SOURCE: tecra 8100

I'm not clear on your description, so here goes:

If it showed the Toshiba start screen, then asked for a password, then your hard drive is password protected.

If it showed the Toshiba screen, then asked for password, and you entered it, and then it goes "insert disk", then your hard drive is passworded and wiped.

If the first thing it does is ask for a password, then the password is in the BIOS.

Toshiba tekra 8100 on off knapp var finns den ?

> on off button where finds it?

The ON/OFF could a switch that "slides" about 50 mm,
or it could be a button with an 'I" inside a "circle".

The pictures at:

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Tecra-8100/Tecra-8100-FL-inverter-big/remove-replace-FL-inverter-00.jpg

and:

http://www.pcarena.hu/pricelist/oriaskep/toshiba-tecra-8100-570.jpg

do not show any "button" on/near the keyboard.

The picture:

http://www.recycledgoods.com/images/s_p_12957_5.jpg

does not show any button on the back.

So, look for a "slider" or a "button" on the side(s) of the case.

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8100 notebook someone gave to me, it asks for a password, and I don't have it. How do I reset it?

Only way is to buy a parallel port (LPT) dongle designed for password removals, or make your own dongle (schematics free on the internet). I've seen these dongles as cheap as $10 on ebay, but I made my own in about 90 minutes.
After that, it's like ... plug the thing into the parallel port, turn the computer on, and the password will be gone.

Tecra 8100 Freezes shortly after Windows comes up

Go into your hard disk utility and defragment your file. When the computer writes to your hard disk over time these files no longer are sequential as they were in the beginning. This is one solution, also you can do a disk recovery using your original disk or by pressing F10 as it boots up. Be sure and do a good check for viruses as well. The symptom you are describing sounds alot like a virus that is slowing your system down more and more. Good luck.

hmmm..that means that your bios needs some attention...it's not too hard to look into that, and see that your disks and other stuff are aligned. You been in the Bios before?
