Tv turns on but after 15 seconds you can not change any of the fuctions, no sound control or menu or imputes. I can change the channels with the cable box. It takes about 20 seconds to turn off. I have to be fast to change imputes or mute the sound. TV is two years old. When it worked TV would turn off in a second or two.

1. Please check your connections and make sure if you are using COMPOSITE “yellow, white, and red cables”, SVIDEO,
with “white, and red” or Color Stream COMPONENT “green, blue, red, white and red cables,” that the white
and red cables which are used for audio are plugged in securely into the same inputs as the video.
If your connections are secure, the station may have broadcast difficulties. Try a different channel.
2. If you are using the coax cable from the wall, press the “ENTER” button on the middle of the remote. If the
information provided shows that you have SAP selected we will need to change it to STEREO or MONO. To do
this, we will need to press the “MENU” button, and use the RIGHT or LEFT arrow keys to highlight the AUDIO
menu. Next we will need to use the DOWN arrow to select AUDIO SETUP press “ENTER” and then arrow down to
MTS and use the RIGHT arrow to select stereo.
3. If you have a cable box or satellite receiver, please make sure the TV’s volume, as well as the box’s, volume is
turned up sufficiently.
4. The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
5. The sound may be muted. Press VOLUME.
6. If you still have problems after following these steps please contact Customer Solutions at 1800-631-3811 Monday
through Friday 8am to 7pm CST. The Toshiba customer service number is 1-800-631-3811. I hope this helps you with your problem.

SOURCE: White/Grey screen with non-HD channels

I removed the HDMI cable and connected with component video and rca audio. No more white screen.

Picture quality looks good. I don't know if it's as good as HDMI, but then I don't need to reboot the TV three times to get to teh on-demand menu... Grrrrr....

I am trying to contact Toshiba on this as well. I have seen several reports of this problem on the web.

TV flips through channels at 2 channels per second.

It sounds like a button is stuck or bad. I would spray some electrical cleaner on the buttons 1st. If that don't work, the switch is probably bad.

I can get a picture , but no sound on the TV . What am I doing wrong?

Many RCA TV sound problems are caused by SAP function being activated by TV station equipment that converts Analog TV signals to HD signals. Accidental pressing of the wrong buttons on your remote can also cause this problem.

The incorrect conversions causes the Audio settings to be changed from Stereo to SAP by the received signal.

Solution is to go to Audio set-up in customer menu and change settings from SAP to Stereo. If you find that settings are wrong, change them to "Stereo". Do channel scan if you are using the TV tuner/remote to select channels. Turn off the TV and unplug for 60 seconds. Check the settings again and reset if required.

This problem may re-occur when you select the VHF channel, satellite channel or cable box channel that is causing the problem. It is not a TV fault that can be repaired. The problem is caused by the incorrect incoming signal.

SAP is Second Audio Program, used for second language transmissions.

Second cause may be that the speakers have been turned off in the audio set-up menu.

Child lock

From the main menu choose "Parental Controls;" it's option six.
  • Step 2 Choose the first option, V-Chip TV Rating Limit, and using the arrow keys and the OK button on the remote, scroll through until the TV-MA rating appears. Press the right arrow button to move the highlight over to the "Status" field and toggle to "View." Press the OK button. This will set the age-based ratings to Mature.
  • Step 3 From the Parental Controls menu, select the second option, V-Chip Movie Ratings Limit and change the rating to TV_MA and the "Status" to "View."
  • Step 4 From the Parental Controls menu select the third option, V-Chip Unrated Program Block and select item one, which will be "View."
  • Step 5 Select the fourth option, which is "Channel Block." Highlight the Channel field and using the channel up and down buttons, go through and check they are all set to 'View." Any set to "Block" will need to be toggled back to View.
  • Step 6 Lock the controls to activate the changes using item six on the "Parental Controls" menu.

    Sound

SAP is short for "second audio program" and is a way to send a second audio track along with the main one. In many areas stations use SAP to provide Spanish or other language sound for movies and other programs. If you have SAP turned on you don't know it until you tune to a channel where it's being used, and then you hear the other sound. Just turn SAP off using the remote control or TV menu.

How can i get my tv to stop automatically changing to menu screen?

    slapshot,
What you have there could be one of three possibilities. Micro, eprom or tact switches... Tact switches are the small contact switches behind the buttons you depress to turn the volume up and down or change the channel. Sometimes these small switches can become contaminated or breakdown due to corrosion. What we call in the industry a windex syndrom, because the older crts on some models had the swiches exposed just below the lower ridge of the cry where when cleaning the screen windex could drip down onto the switch and cause the corrosion to begin.
Eprom is another likely suspect. This Ic is responsible for storing an array of information including customer settings and other logics convert what the eprom stores into electronic pulses for any number of fuctions. For example press the volume down on your Tv and the eprom has the information to show you the volume bar, the level the volume bar was last set at and the increments at which you are reducing it realtime.
The Micro is another possibility. It acts like a traffic cop engaging various circuits to do or not do something according to a preset list of conditions. Timers, looking at a particular input or yes even bringing up the menu is tasked through the micro controller Ic or micro for short.
The fact that you can eventually get the unit to operate suggests that something in the logic circuit is failing and will in all likelyhood continue to do so until eventually it doesn't work at all...
