Can these needles be used with my sewing machine?

Hello, I recently received a Kenmore sewing machine model # 15213/15343. It acme with three # 14 needles...so I got on line, found and bought some Kenmore needles for various materials from someone on eBay. My question is this...must I have *certain needles for specific machine models*? Only one of the little plastic boxes came attached to a card which has the following information: Kenmore 6554...For all Kenmore Commander and Challenger sewing machines except models 49, 71 and 76. I'm at a loss here as Sears manuals say nothing about interchangeable model # needles AND NO ONE at Sears seams to know anything. So then, in your opinion will the needle I purchased work with my new sewing machine? thanks

Don't know if this is helpful...but I have a very old Kenmore and 2 Brothers. I used the same needles with all 3 machines. No problems.

Bobbin thread bunching on singer sewing machine...have changed needle and tensions! Help

Try a ball point 11/70 or stretch 11/70 needle. Also rethread the entire machine. Make sure the needle is inserted correctly in the sewing machine. I had this same thing happen to me recently and I found I had the needle backwards.

Does it make a difference whether I use a 14 or 16 in my Kenmore sewing machine, basic 12 stitch. I had a 16 needle in it but after my friend cleaned it, in trying it, the needle hit the presser foot>...

Hi. You use different size needles for different fabrics and fabric weights. Size 16 needles are used for heavy fabric, like canvas, duck, or blue jeans. Size 14 needles are still on the heavy/thick fabric size. Size 10 needles are for very light-weight fabrics and size 12 needles are for medium-weight fabrics. Also, you need to pay attention to the type of fabric--if sewing on knits, you need ballpoint needles. If sewing on woven fabrics, you need sharps or universals. Universals are supposed to be for knits, too....but ballpoint needles are SO much better!
Use the right size and type of needle for your fabric, don't sew over any pins (they can bend or even break the needle), and make sure you don't pull or push the fabric while you're sewing on it. Let the feed dogs do the work of moving the fabric--you just gently guide it.
Hope this helps!

I don't know what kind of needles to use. I have three older machines (117.552 158.18030 158.13201) all bought used. The manuals all say use Kenmore needles -not enough info. Is the 15x1 series of needle...

You can use Kenmore, Singer, Klasse, Schmetz or Organ needles for home sewing machines - they are the same configuration.

The instruction manual should indicate how to insert the needle, either according to the flat side of the needle shaft or the groove down the front of the needle.

Needles for older machines may require a round shaft needle. Needles for industrial sewing machines have a round shaft.

Won't sew when foot pedal is pressed

Since it was your grandmother's machine, it is very likely the machine has not been used in many years nor has it had any TLC. Most often, the machine will seize due to old oil that has dried out. Resist the temptation to try running the machine until the issue is addressed because the motor can be damaged. If this is the cause of the problem, you will need plenty of patience, good quality oil, possibly a handheld hairdryer, and good ol' elbow grease. But, at the end, you will have a well-functioning sewing machine.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Color coded Kenmore needles

Hi there, The different colors only correspond with the size of the needle. Green is actually a size 18 (110) needles which is basically as big as they come! your best bet would be to go with a size 11 (75) or 12 (80) needle. For the Kenmore color coding it would blue or orange respectively. Hope this helps
