Distorted Color and geometry of Picture

I have a PT-47WX49 rear projection Panasonic TV that is 4.5 years old. When I powered it up yesterday, the picture came on with a nonuniform distorted appearance. In general, the picture appears to be misaligned with a blue shadow on the entire picture. In addition, there is a blue semicircular area at the bottom of the picture with a red semicircular shadow above the blue area. It is impossible to align the blue and red using the convergence functions as different parts of the picture are out of alignment in differing amounts. Finally the geometry of the picture appears to be distorted in the blue and red semi-circular areas at the bottom of the picture. blue and yellow are out of sequence

OMG I turned on my Panasonic PT-47w53 47 in today after work and the same thing happened to me, its a semi circle in the lower left hand side of the screen, I had my set 4 1/2 years and the 4 yr warrenty is now over, no problems with the set at all until today. Not sure its even worth looking into fixing the problem may be more expensive then what its worth.

Any suggestions? did you get yours fixed if so the total price or this type of repair, I live in MN so the cost always seemed to a lot more higher to fix common problems by service techs.

we have a Panasonic rear projector also PT-47WX54, which is about 5 years old. The same type of problem- distorted color and picture geometry- is occurring only the red and blue will adjust, but not the green. I dont know all the tech jargon. It would be nice if we could replace the part( what is the part?) ourselves. Just had a spendy repair last year of another issue with our tv. tks

could you please clarify what the part is? I don't know the jargon or part #, if it relates to a panasonic hd projection tv. The part # isnt listed on the Panasonic parts website. Is it easy to replace ourselves? tks

Picture suddenly distorted, green and violet lines

It is convergence out ICs failure problem and you need to replace two ICs in convergence board/ section in TV.
If you are not familiar with TV repair then call qualified TV tech to fix it.

Panasonic Rear Projection TV

its either the color wheel or light engine they can both cause this symptom. I would inspect the color wheel see if its brken or at the very least got a good connection as thats alot cheaper than a light engine.

Panasonic rear projection TV 47 in PT 47WX49

Camaroguy: This exact problem happened to us about 8 months ago. A board had to be replaced at a cost of $500. Yesterday, the convergence has gone on the set. You get a blue and yellow shadow on the picture. From what I have been reading, this has happened on a few TVs and it will cost another $500 or so. We refuse to pour more money down the drain so we just went out and bought a new plasma (RCA) for half what it cost us for the Panasonic 4 years ago. We have never had a problem with RCA in the past (two tvs for 20 years a piece).

I've posted this solution several times but here goes. Try setting up the convergence through the menu by accessing the convergence setup menu. If this fails to work you have a bad digital convergence box and need a tech to replace it. About $60 to $100 fix.
