Webroot spysweeper with virus protection will not turn on
The program loaded alright but will not turn on. And the disk I was sent in the mail as a backup is last years version. No Virus protection. I actually have four disks of the same program. First time I've had a problem with Spy sweeper ! I can't find the version value on my receipt or disk. I need to get this thing running or I won't have virus protection.

Hi, If spysweeper was installed then you should find it in "add remove programs" (XP) or "programs and features" (Vista) both can be found in the control panel. When you open it look for webroot. If it's not there type regedit in the search or run box, click on edit and select find, type webroot into the text box and search for any registry entry relating to spysweeper (webroot). If your registry finds an entry click on find next and keep on doing this until the registry is cleared, then restart your PC and try and update Mcafee. If you can't find any registry entry relating to webroot your PC maybe infected with spyware, malware or a virus. In that case i would perform a deep scan of the system whether your antivirus is updated or not.
Good luck and please post back if you need anymore help.
I just went through this this afternoon, I spent 8 hours removing and updating and loading McAfee and running it too.
Webroot is a bad program, it is hard to remove and some of the componets just cannot be removed unless you do a search for the file and then delete it....if you need a certain dll then the anti-virus should detect that and remove or quarantine it.
I would suggest that you remove Webroot, and install another anti-virus program...I swear by McAfee, it removed over 30 problems or quarantined them, it works and is well worth the money spent....If you have Comcast, it is FREE to download on all of your computers in your home....just part of the internet service.
PS...Uniblue registry booster is no good, and another one that is hard to remove...it has spyware too.
Webroot may provide you with a free upgrade if you recently purchased your software.
All customers who purchased software from Webroot Software are eligible for free replacement and software updates within one year of their original date of purchase (or the purchase of a registration renewal).
Fill out the form at this link (http://www.webroot.com/updates/redownload/request) and after webroot verifies your info they should e-mail you a download link and keycode if you purchased within the last year.
Although in my humble opinion Spy sweeper is a bit of a resource hog and does not provide the best protection against malware/Spyware. I would recommend checking out malware bytes Anti-malware (they have both a free and a paid PRO version that has automatic protection). It is much more effective, cheaper, and your pc will run faster with this then spysweeper.
See if you can run the program from folder, should be a .exe file, if it runs check the version under the help tab,,,if not you have to delete it and you have to delete the keys in the registry,if you don't know how to do this, do a search for webroot ,or spysweeper with windows search, and look for the installer it should say spysweeper install or setup, reinstall the program and then uninstall it with its own uninstaller,, the file is (unins000.exe)only uninstall if this version is older that the disk you received.
Your SpySweeper program functions by viewing incoming programs requesting access to your computer, referencing them to a built-in definitions file that updates regularly, and granting permission or red-flagging potential spyware programs. So, the definitions file is very important for the program to work properly.
I recently had a customer's computer display the same error message, and the way I was able to work-around it and make the SpySweeper program work properly was to uninstall it completely, ensure that there are no other anti-virus programs that might interfere with SpySweeper's install (if you have norton for example, manualy disable it for the duration of the install), and download the most current version from the internet rather than your disks that came with it.
Now, there could be other things involved, such as a malicious program interfering with how SpySweeper functions. In that scenario, restoring your OS is usually the fastest method of restoring functionality to your machine. Hopefully it is not a virus infection, but if you run out of ideas to resolve the issue a restore is a simple fix that guarantees success.
