EMachine W3507, will not boot after adding 2GB of memory. (2x 1GB; one in each slot). It will boot with one stick, but only if the original 512MG is in slot 1. The 512MB is not recognized.

SOURCE: Upgrade problems

Your system comes stock with one stick of DDR2 (512 MB), which means that it is _ not_ dual channel DDR2 memory as dual channel DDR2 must be installed in matched pairs. Try to exchange the new memory for 2G of some single channel DDR2.

SOURCE: added 2 1GB memory to

There are two variants of the T5048 One uses DDR PC3200 ram the other uses DDR2 PC5300
Should be able to look at the old ram and it should say on it what it is. If it doesn't, take out the new, put in the old ram and go here http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx Run the "Scan My Computer"
Some computers will have a setting in BIOS to disable on board video although eMachine are very low end and probably don't offer that. Shouldn't need to just install your video card and plug your monitor into it. It should work just fine without disabling on board.

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,

If you have the additonal memory in the system correctly, it should be recognized.
Attempt to boot the system with just the new stick in. If it boots you most likely have a motherboard issue. If it doesn't, it's just a bad stick of memory and I suggest just getting a new one.

Just installed 2 2GB cards (Corsair VS2GB800D2) to replace the 1 1GB card in my emachines EL1200 series. Computer will not boot. replaced the old card and it booted right up.

Will it boot with only ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks installed?
Will it boot with ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks AND one of the 1GB memory-sticks?

Look closely at the 1GB memory-sticks.
Does the label show 'DDR266' or 'DDR333' or 'DDR400' or 'PC2100' or 'PC2700' or 'PC3200' ?
Do the 2GB memory-sticks have _identical_ information?
It's definitely _not_ acceptable to have "slower" RAM (smaller numbers) in the new RAM,
but it _might_ be acceptable to have "faster" RAM (larger numbers).

Adding memory, new total not recognized: IBM Thinkpad R51e-1844

Ram should always be paired. Same type, speed and size in each slot. You may have 1 SIMM/DIMM/DDR that has 2 sides of chips and the other with 1 which will do exactly what you state. RAM reads across the chips simultaneously. So if you have a different one in each slot it can go bonkers and do goofy stuff on you.
