We have a LG LFX25960ST and the control panel seems to have gone out in it. We have tried unplugging the fridge anywhere from 30sec to 30min with the same results. At power on all the buttons light up for a second and then the lock button lights up and then goes out after about 10 seconds. No LED display ever comes on and then the panel is just dark and nothing works. The fridge still cools and freezes but only water works out of the unit as we cannot switch to ice. Any help here?

when half of the display goes out, it is giving you an error code telling you what is wrong with the fridge.Unplugging it simply resets the computer until the error comes back typically within a few hours.
without knowing what is lit up, it is difficult to help you so I would recommend putting the error code "which bars are lit up" in a comment so we can diagnose further

I had the same problem....3rd problem for this fridge...the tech is coming out , he said it is the icemaker. I will let you know after he fixes the problem.
Sounds like you need a new display pwb. The flapper for the ice works on a solenoid which is on a little board that is behind the display board. When the power is cut the flapper should close as it is on a spring. I don't believe that there is any worries of it catching fire. Have a tech come and replace the board for you.
