Im getting a purple, blurry and striped preview screen and pictures. I just purchased this camera as a point and shoot to take on vacation, but I didn't take it with me because of the problems described above. I purchased it at Best Buy right before leaving the country for vacation and I'm concerned that I may miss their returns deadline because I wasn't there to return it. I've seen others say that it's a defective CDC imager and that I should buy a new one, but I just want to return it- I haven't even been able to use it, I don't think I should have to be purchasing parts on it. I just wanted to reach out to see if anyone has had an experience with this problem and if they returned it, where, and how did it go? Thanks!

Best Buy is not as return friendly as some stores, in my experience. That is why I avoid buying from them as much as possible. Sam's Club offers a great return policy and they have very inexpensive maintenance warranties too. They base theirs on the cost of the item in most cases. I would try returning the camera to Best Buy. Take some evidence of your trip dates with you. If the sales person refuses, ask to speak with a manager. If the manager refuses, go to their Facebook page and post the problem and write the company's CEO and explain the circumstances.

Unfortunately dropping this model, and the f40, 45, 47 fd models, is suicidal for the camera. The lens has an inner slide ring which other models do not have and this ring has three lugs to keep the lens from spinning when powered up and used. Unfortunately these lugs are also clips which hold the focus lens inplace. These are tiny. hard to repair

SOURCE: Camera powers on, then off

My got fixed when I gave it 5 gentle, firm bangs on the carpet with the bottom facing down. Got the advice from somebody online, figured, it's already broken and about 2 years old so what do I have to lose? To me was less risky than trying to open it. The focus problem got fixed and so far no message. Worth trying

HORIZONTAL STRIPES ON PICTURE

Hi!
Turn on the camera
Pull the lens at maximum zoom
Turn off the flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shoot the picture - look into the lens.

If no motion picture shutters in the lens:
1. Faulty flex cable shutter
2. Faulty valve solenoids
etc.
Requires repair of the shutter assembly in the lens

If you saw the shutter and blurry pictures as paint - matrix defective - Replace the camera matrix.

If the LCD displays correctly on previous photos then the problem is more than likely a CCD or associated ribbon connector failure due to moisture/condensation or age/misuse. Good luck with finding a replacement part!

Blurry Pictures

You probably got some condensation on the lens from going in and outside. You should be able to go to a Wolf Camera or similar store and have it cleaned.
