I recently found a compaq ipaq 3635 that has been sitting in a box for at least 5 years if not longer. What do I do to bring it up to the most recent firmware, etc. and then find some programs to download for it ?

there will be no updates for win xp as it is no longer supported by Microsoft
go to the manufacturers web sit , look for your model and if there is a download for win xp download from there

Try this - don't give up Leave it charging, even if it takes three days. I sold one a few years ago on ebay and the buyer was insistent it wouldn't charge. Eventually it did start charging and there were no more problems.

As I understand it, the basic cradle that comes with the Compaq Ipaq 3870 does not charge. If I were you, I'd either seek out a charging cradle or google the instructions for modifying your cradle to charge. Good luck...

Try this, take the ipaq off the cradle, turn the ipaq off (if you can), restart the desktop, put the ipaq back in thc cradle, turn the ipaq on, and restart ROM update again.

you should install the ROM v1.10 update, and then install the 8/3/2005 XIP BIOS update recently posted at: ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30939.exe Apparently, this BIOS update is supposed to correct the region in ROM v1.10 where the hi-capacity battery read error is found, without incrementing the ROM version.
