If the TV has a digital tuner, then the TV's remote should have an option to scan all receivable channels for viewing. If its an analog TV, then you need to utilize a digital box to allow the TV to receive digital transmissions by changing the analog signals to digital.

Okay, does this tv have a built in DIGITAL tuner? Most tv's only have an analog tuner. You can tell the difference while you are changing the channels. If the channel indicates 2.1 or 2.2 and so forth, it is on a digital channel mode. If you change the channel and it indicated 2, 3, 4, etc. it is analog. If it has digital capability change the input until you see 2.1, 3.4 etc. If you cycle through all the inputs on the tv like, input 1 (TV) input 2(DVD) input 3(HDMI) and so forth and you never see the digital channel you most likely do not have a digital tuner. You will need to purchase a digital converter which will convert it to analog and you can watch it by placing you tv on analog channel 3 just like the old vcr's. Hey, most stations are not broadcasting analog anymore. That is why you are only getting 10 channels.

Check all your connections in the back, if they're all good replace the main board in the tv.

Buy a converter box. Or get one for free from the government

The big TV change over should only worry people that use that old style antenna on their roofs. That is the analog system. Cable and satellite are digital systems. It is hard to find an analog TV set these days. If you have to twist a big knob on your TV to change the channels, then I would worry about 2009. You have a digital TV if you have a yellow video jack somewhere on the back.
