Closed caption I am hearing impaired. I have a Toshiba DVR620KU connected to my TV which is a LC-52LE640U. The DVD documentation says it is closed captioned, but there is no selection for subtitling. If I play the DVD on my PC, the captioning automatically displays. I press the CC button on the remote and the displays shows HDMI 1080P and two leaves with 2 in the left corner. There is nothing that looks like the display in the manual listing the cc options etc. Can you help? Thank You.

Its in the TV Setup. The Cable box will output the Closed Captioning on Line 20 or 21 of the Picture - this is just at the top of the TV Picture where you can't see it. The TV Menu should have a choice of closed Captioning like CC1, Teletext, etc. and one of them should be selected. After exiting the menu, you should start seeing Closed Captioning
on the tv.

hi there

Basically,

you can try to access the MENU of your tv with or without your remote, but as to make things easier, try o access the MENU and look for the close captioning options there using your remote. you may see it as turned OFF and try to switch it to ON.

however, you may not be able to see all shows and dvds with caption...

since your problem indicates that you need closed captions on your tv and you cant seem to operate it, please download Jaime867 post about the user manual.

Closed captions and Digital closed captions are found in Page 37 in the user manual...

again, hope you'll be able to see the closed caption soon.

thanks for using fixya.

My sharp aquos LC-32LE7OOUN will not show CC

I think your model number is LC-32LE700UN. What is your video source? The CC button will only work for captions from the TV source (RF) OTA or cable without a converter box. For video from any set-top box (for example, an HDMI source), you'll have to enable the captions at that device. Depending on the device, you may have to navigate through the menus, rather than use quick CC button. On my IPTV box, I can enable the closed captions by entering the setup menu using a pass code provided by the ISP. Then I have to enter the Audio section of the Hardware menu. On one satellite system some years ago, I had to enable captions for both TVs at their primary receiver. This let their hearing-impaired uncle watch TV when he visited and watched a second TV.

Sharp has the documentation for the LC-32LE700UN here: https://www.sharpusa.com/Support/ProductDetail.aspx?model=LC-32LE700UN . The current link to the manual is http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForHome/HomeEntertainment/LCDTVs/Manuals/tel_man_LC32LE700UN.pdf .

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the TV source for additional information about the Closed Caption for that source.

are you using the original remote control of the tv? did you try the remote control provided by comcast? go to comcast website for further help.

This is a link to both the quick start guide and the full manual for download. http://westinghouse.manuals365.com/HDTV/SK-40H590D.html

I am not sure that this particular function can be set as default however, you may have to set up Closed Captions every time you insert a DVD/VHS.

Black Square

I had the same problem with DVDs. It turrned out that I turned the closed caption on a few days earlier, so I turned the "closed caption" off and the problem went away.

Recording with closed caption

Carl,
Better late than.. I think that the Polo can record the encoded closed captioning onto the HDD, but you have to have a CC equipped television to display the captioning.
The newer Magnavox and Philips recorders sold at Walmart record the captioning, and have the capability to display it even on sets without the built in CC decoder depending upon your recording settings. If you get a digital converter box and connect that as the source to your Polo, you can record CC displayed on the screen if you want.
