Samsung plasma TV cooling fan didn't turn on and the TV overheated. Tried replacing with a new fan, but that fan will not turn on either. TV works just fine with back cover removed and a 12" desk fan running behind it. Is the circuit on the main board that controls the fan bad? Do I need a new main board?

That is indicative of overheating. Vacuum all the vents and check inside for cooling fans not working.

It sounds like it's overheating. If you can put a small electric fan behind it and see if that fixes the problem.
My plasma has a regular box fan behind it to cool it off.

Hi, does your replacement fan is the same exact part number as the original?. If your replacement fan is like the ones used un pcs with the third yellow wire, then this wont work.

As you mentioned the problem can be realted to the plasma display panel. If you can open the tv then try on thing. When you open the tv you can see there will be ribbon wires going to the panel in the top and bottom side of the tv . You have to remove these connections from its sockets. now you will see some commponnets in the ribbon cabe. You have to resolder the SMD resistor in the board. Dry soldering in these resistors will lead to this problem. Also you have to check is there is any cooling fan inside your tv. Normally all plasma tvs have cooling fans inside. If the cooling fan dosen't work it will lead to overheating of components and this problem can occur. If all thses didnt help then the pannel is faulty. On your Plasma tv you have cooling fans on the back side you will need to check to make sure that they are running. Lay your tv on the bed take off back cover (it's not hard) and used some air-in-the- can to remove dust from the back! If you need a fan go to Partstore.com (1-866-925-PART)

Plasma technology produces more heat than other monitor types, as such it has less options for successful placement.

First verify that the cooling fan does in fact operate; it should turn the blades a fast pace.
Then clean any dust from ALL of the vent openings and especially any filter placed in front of the cooling fan(s). Also keep away from the TV anything obstructing air flow through the vents.

Yes,the problem is the colors wheel it dead.That one of the cause by the colors wheel,other are alots of squiling noises and making very loud buzzing sound.The cooling fan that u think is overheating,does it stop sometimes,when the tv is still on?Yes,than replaced it also,no than it still ok.Just hire the tv repairman,the parts he'll take care of it,don't order the parts,u might get the wrong parts or different sizes,that will not fit in ur tv.

It's definitely an overheating problem if your plasma turns off by itself after a while. I would suggest to place a cooling fan near the back of it as a temporary fix.
There could be a power supply issue along with a Ysustainer board but in order to know that for sure, you should use a hair drier and blow hot air to the power supply and see if the TV turns off, if the time that the tv turns off is shorter when blowing hot air to the power supply; then is the power supply issue.

plz check if the internal cooling fan are in good working condition. avoid keeping magnetic elements..eg.speakers, very nearby.

fan filter is probably plugged with dust, fan blades are also probably covered, unit will have to be taken apart and cleaned, lamp is overheating, probably a good idea to replace that lamp or at least order a new one and keep it for when it does finally die out, good luck with it, hope this helps
