I have recently changed the battery in my Polar F11F and all was working fine for about two weeks. The screen went scrambled and was unreadable and then error 16 was then displayed. You can sometimes see error 16 displayed but sometimes you can't.
My screen scrambled as well...I got the battery replaced and now it says error 16 on it as well...HELP!!!! I NEED MY WATCH!!!My screen scrambled as well...I got the battery replaced and now it says error 16 on it as well...HELP!!!! I NEED MY WATCH!!!

You need to hold down all 4 or 5 buttons at once. This will reset your watch and bring up the message "welcome to polar fitness world". Press ok button 1x to start your setup process.
I pressed al the 5 buttons at once, was a little bit tricky, but pressed the center button on the right on a table and used my fingers for the other 4 buttons.
Screen went completely black, al the symbols were shown.
After a while, I had to re-enter the settings.
It's working now :D Only problem is that the hr-sensor isn't working..probably also a dead battery.

It is a CR 2430.
It's a very tricky job to change the battery, watch out for the small springs that fly out when you dismantle it.
Polar recommends sending it back to them for a battery change where they also check the waterproof seal etc. I would recommend this as it's only about $16. Well worth it.
You probably need to "short out" the battery before you can set it.
To do this you need to remove the caseback and apply a tweezers to the battery and the "AC".
The AC is usually labeled and it looks like a little gold cricle near the battery in the watch. (I realize there may be more than one gold colored small circle in there, and if it's not labeled it will take trial and error.)
With the tweezers, or paperclip would work, touch the AC and the battery at the same time and hold for a few seconds, then release and repeat once more. This should get your watch reset and ready for you to set.
After you replaced battery you just have to put all four buttons together to reset the cs600. Than press the middle button ok and it should start normal.
That is my thought aswell. Change out the screen. It isn't hard at all. They are less then 20 bucks on Ebay. I wroke a quick guide you can take a look at to help you out.
You have to replace the battery with the new one. In most cases underpowered battery causes faded or even disappearing digits on LCD unless your watch has been damaged by water. Find your nearest watch repair shop or do it yourself.
