Your GE frig water and ice filter does not have a number, MWF is the type of filter that fits your refrigerator. There is also a MWFP filter that traps even more particulates (pharmaceuticals) but the MWF works just fine. About $35 at Home Depot where they sell appliances.
Quite frequently carbon fines can be flushed from filter and plug the filter. If you have the bypass plug to replace the filter. Put that in and flush system completely. Take the filter and flush it at the kitchen sink. It is best to fill these with water before installing and flush the carbon fines before installing in fridge. RJ
the inlet valve has jammed shut & needs to be replaced it's just coincedence that it happened when you changed the filter unless the taps turned off it has to be a faulty inlet valve.
Many times fines from these filters become dislodged and plug up the filter housing. If you have the bypass plug for the filter, install it and run a couple gallons of water through fridge to flush the system completely. The install the filter again. Make sure none of the water lines feeding fridge are pinched or kinked and valve is on all the way. RJ
I have exactly the same problem. Replaced my GWF filter with the "new improved" MWF filter and the same thing happened. Tried replacing the filter not once, but twice - same low water flow. If you install the bypass plug the water flow is normal, so don't bother checking for water restrictions, bad hoses, tanks etc.. My refridgerator is a GE Profile 26 cubic foot purchased in 2004. I'm afraid these MWF filters don't work well in older models.
i dont believe so water will fill it, it should reconize the filter and fill it... i believe i may be wrong but that is how it usually is.... did it come with instructions?
