Aficio mp171 toner error even after installing a new cartridge hlp please!

Turn the machine off then on and let the machine go through the process of adding toner again repeat this about ten times. Then it should have added toner by then. If not then the toner motor is faulty and not turning. To check this by putting a mark on the toner bottle shut the door and let the machine add toner after this open the door and check the mark for movement.

Was it making clear copies before the add toner message? Did you just install a new cart? if so, pull out the toner hopper, remove the toner cart and look into the hopper itsself and make sure the cap from the old toner cart can be still stuck in place.

Thanks Ricohman for the suggestion. Toner was original Ricoh cartridge and reinstalling it didn't help. I decided to tear the machine apart and discovered the auger for the black toner was stuck. I removed the auger, cleaned everything up and put the machine back together. Works great now.

It sounds like the part the toner bottle slides under to lock in place is broken. you could try and fold some paper and tape it to the toner to hold it down.

Did you follow the instuctions to shake gently then remove all tags prior to placing the toner? Is it a toner/drum unit. look underneath if theres a green drum. After market toner will not work.
