During playback, only seee a blue screen.

My Canon ZR40 won't playback. With the camcorder switch in the playback mode, and the play button pushed, all I see is a blue screen on the pop out display whle the icons show the tape is running and I can hear the whir of tape being fed (and I know there is recorded video on the mini DV cassette).

I am able to record- the view finder shows the image being recorded. But, during playback, all I see is a blue screen and the tape icon showing the tape advancing and the index counter advancing.

Will not power up in camera mode but does power up in playback mode

A failure to power up in camera mode indicates a problem with the lens. If the zoom or focus motors will not 'home' or 'initialize', the camera will continue to try endlessly.
If you mean that there is no picture but the camera runs otherwise normally (Beep, Start/stop, lights on, menu...), this is an Imager problem. Contact Canon about a repair. Canon may cover the repair for free.
Other things can cause it but this is most common.

I have a blue screen during playback mode on my Sony DCR-HC32. I am not able to see anything I recorded. What should I do?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if a blue screen is displayed when attempting to playback video from the camcorder.
  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  3. Play the tape.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  5. Clean the video heads of the camcorder using a dry head cleaning cassette.IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for use provided with the head cleaning cassette. It may be necessary to use the head cleaning cassette more than once per session.
  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  11. Play the tape.

Sony CCD-TRV65. Blue screen during playback

Just bought the exact one from a yard sale for 20 bucks. Had the very same problem with the blue screen on playback. What i did is replace the battery in the small bay when you open the viewfinder. Try playing your tape again and it will work!

Playing MPEG's

* The MPEG Playback function works in M. PLAY mode only. * You can play moving picture images on the Memory Card. * To hear sound during MPEG4 playback, you must hook up to a PC and listen to the PC's speaker. (You cannot hear it from the speaker on the camcorder or a TV) 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD position. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER mode. 3. Press the MENU button and turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY. 4. Press the ENTER button to enter sub-menu. 5. Use the MENU DIAL to select MPEG4 from the sub-menu. (M. PLAY SELECT) 6. To exit the menu, push the MENU button. 7. Using the (FWD) and (REV) buttons, search for the moving picture that you want to playback. 8. Press the PLAY/STILL button. The moving pictures recorded on the MEMORY CARD begin playing back.
