Don't know the year of this machine but it comes up Error 002 and will not spin and drain. Is it worth fixing or better to replace?
SOURCE: No spin
Code Lr indicates a fault or failure with the motor. Manual refers user to contact a service rep. First check your warrantee and do a look up on recalls (you can use the Maytag homepage) as some of the earlier versions of this model were recalled and Maytag has agree to some forms of restitution/repair and or replacement assistance.

If this machine is like other of its type then you may find the manual taped to the inside of the machine near the bottom side panel.
open the bottom access panel (3 screws on bottom front lip) and look for it as it will have the codes. near where the filter is .
while you were down there cleaning the filter did you check that the pump impellers move freely and were not clogged with any debris.

Roz,
You have some kinda something stuck in your drain pump. The computer that controls your washer has detected that it's taking too long to pump out and therefore refuses to spin.
Now this will take alot of work, but it'll save you a couple hundred, OK? First you have to get as much water out of the washer as possible. Fortunately on the Maytags you can do this fairly easily. Use a garden hose and connect it to the end of the drain hose (from the washer)... use duct tape to secure it. Then run the garden hose outside and make sure it's downhill. Now take the corrugated drain from your washer and lower it below the base of the washer. This will drain it completely.
After the water has drained, pull the washer away from the wall... enough for working space. AND DON'T FORGET TO UNPLUG IT! Remove the rear panel (4 screws) and you'll see a big pulley in front of you.To the lower left, you'll see the drain pump. It's mounted to the base of the cabinet. Use a 5/16" to remove the hose clamps then remove the hoses. Then remove the wires that feed the pump. When that is done, you should have the pump in your hand.
Now that you have the pump in hand you'll see the pump housing (it's white). There are three screws holding the pump housing to the motor. Remove them and separate the 2 parts. Now you'll see the cause of the problem. Some trash got pulled into it. Probably a rug bottom or a dog bed....
Remove the stuff and rebuild the unit in reverse order and you're good to go.

If it?s a FAV6800AW or FAV8900AW and you want to DIY a fix take a look at this post and see if you or someone you know has some very basic mechanical skills and can do a clutch replacement or roller clutch bearing re-lube. The dc/UC unbalance errors are a very common failure issue with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW. A new clutch will cost around $80. This a common issue with the FAV6800AW and FAV9800AW. Don't spend $900 and don't trash your $1000 machine it is a easy fix just at tight work area. Post back after you read the post I link you to and you have any questions. Rich

I have a 1998 model and the tub bearing was the problem with the same symptoms you have provided. I purchased a replacement (genuine Maytag) outer tub in 2007 and that fixed the problem. The old bearing was pulverized. The tub was 239.65. I got the parts from "Repairclinic.com>" I also replaced the door boot for 57.80. Today my spin/agitation cycles quit! The belt is ok but I haven't looked beyond that.
