My Mitsubishi WDY57 dlp projection television will not power on.

In advance i appreciate any input that can be given. Recently my Mitsubishi dlp television (Model # WDY57) has started to randomly turn off. At first i thought it might be the air flow defect coming up again. But a year ago i had a technician from Mitsubishi come out and replace the sensor in the television and it has not been an issue ever since. Originally i thought heat might have been an issue since i have so many devices running underneath the television set. But i have a fan pointed at the back of the TV at all times running on high. I've cleaned the television of all dust and looked at the power panel and motherboard in the television and it appears to be normal (no burn marks or show of damage). As of today i can not get my television to turn on at all. If i unplug it for a while and plug it back in the timer light will light up and blink for about 30 seconds then back to nothing. It is hooked up to a power surge protector and all other devices in that area have not had any complications. I also ended up replacing the original lamp about six months ago and have not had any complications until recently. Time frame that it took for it to just not turn on anymore was about 2 to 3 weeks with it turning off randomly once every 4 to 5 days. Any help would greatly appreciated!

on the front of the unit after you turn it on and it shuts off, press and hold the menu and device buttons for a few seconds. you should get a series of flashes from the green LED. 1 pause 2, is an "all ok" code. the code pattern will repeat about 5 times. please let us know what you get.

SOURCE: We recently experienced a power outage, but once

The blinking green light is the DM unit in the set booting up like a computer.

Several things can happen here--Research by model number with GOOGLE, model number and problems.

It is often called the blinking green light of death.

The most common problem is 4 filter caps in power supply (they run 7/24 and supply voltage to DM unit fail--also some fuses there.

If you look on the net you will find places that sell kit for this repair.

This is also one of a group of several Mitsubishi sets with this kind of problem--It is not the Lamp!

Some of these models develop so many problems Mitsubishi now sells a chassis replacement--includes power and several boards that develop bad caps.

Understand: Mitsubishi has a long history of caps failing in their sets, it goes back almost 30 years. I have seen older ones where over 20 filter caps were bad.

You can talk to Mitsubishi to see if chassis replacement is available for your set--this came about as a result of the threat of hundreds of people entering a class action lawsuit (several).

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

If you have questions make a "comment" here and I will assist you.

the dlp will most likely need a qualified mits repair center to take over for you. repairing that set is pretty involved. and the parts you would need are not available to the public.
on your 48" CRT projection check the DM module for 4 vented 1000mf 16v capacitors. replacement should get you tv working great

I have Mitsubishi WDY57. When I turn on the tv it says "TV will shut down in a few seconds. Please check if the air flow is blocked" TV then shuts off. Any suggestions?

Susie, try removing the lamp assembly, and blowing out the ventilated area on the lamp assembly housing. i had this issue on my wd-y57 recently and that solved it.(mine was really packed with dust...) i made sure to hold in the system reset button after doing this (located in the controls panel on the front of the tv) but not sure if that is necessary.

We have a 55in mitsubishi rear projection tv.
It was working great when the electricity went out (it was plug'd into a power strip) when the electricity came back on it did not turn on at all. The only thing that is showing that there is even any power going to it is a flashing green light by the reset button that does not turn off unless unplugged. I have followed the troubleshooting instructions for resetting etc but no help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. M Deisley
