Maytag Neptune front load washer ??? Is there a filter ???

Please help, I have a MAYTAG NEPTUNE FRONT LOAD WASHER......it has the digital touch pad display, model number is MAH6500AWW if needed.....My question is....Does this machine have a Filter to trap the hair etc ??? I have read a lot of folks that had a bad smell, have taken apart there machine and cleaned out all the milldew and gunk and washed out the filter and then switched to He brand of POWDER . I DO NOT have a BAD SMELL....YET, and I always use the AFFRESH tablets, at least once a month, but I would love to change this filter or even clean it if someone qould tell me that these machines have them. I am preatty handy, I have changed the front drum to door seal, it was a real bugger but it has'nt dripped a drop in a year....my kid left his pocket knife OPEN and in the wash. YES, I know....why was it even in his pocket to start with never mind OPEN.... WE did solve that issue, anyway any help would be great, thanks Shawn

I have a Maytag front loader MAH6700AWW. I just pulled the pump lastnight because it had a quarter stuck in it and was making a terrible grinding noise. I was shocked to discover that there is absolutely no filter trap on this machine. If anything gets past the rubber boot, and coins can and do... you need to wish for luck in that you do not wipe out your pump. I was shocked that this machine had not filter trap between the pump impeller and the tub drain. All newer machines have these. The LG and most have a trap door on the front you open to access the trap. Some of the earlier front loaders required that the bottom front panel be removed. No such animal on this Maytag. Probably yours as well.

I was having that problem with smell too and I was told not to completely close the door when the washer is not in use to allow for air flow. When the door is always closed it does not allow for air flow and a mildew smell will develop. I keep mine open when it is not in use now and I do not have that problem anymore.

I need to know how to remove the top of a maytag mah6500a front load washing machine.

  • Randy Kluber Mar 13, 2013

Remove the two screws on the back of the lid then slide the cover back and off. May take a little cooercing on your part, but the lid just slides back and off. Good Luck!

To Shawn from Shawn,
I had the same problem. Well have I guess I should say. Wasn't draining all the way took everything apart there is no filter that I found besides the little screens in the hoses. Well still has water in the drum just not as much. And I figured out the hard and painful way. That somehow water has gotten in the front of the drum. The plastic part that says do not open contains Calcium something or another may cause Burns or something I can't remember exactly what it says. But yes as I said I learned the painful way because some of that chemical had gotten into the bottom of the washer into some of the water that was sitting in the bottom of the washer which got on my hands and led to some intense burning and instant blisters on my fingers. So I think it's us Maytag Neptune owners are just going to have to deal with we're never going to get all of the water out you can get most of it out unless you open up that part that says do not I did not open it it just leaked out somehow when the water got in there which I did not know when I was cleaning up the bottom of the washer and my hands started burning. But now I have the issue of the leaking so is that what I need to do is change that seal because part of the door where the hinge screws into the plastic is broken so it doesn't hold that in very well so do I need to change the plastic in the door or do I need to change that gasket boot or whatever you call it? Or both?

I was wondering the same thing. I have the same washer as you do. Mine is now 16 yrs old. After seeing articles about washer maintenance I decided to clean the filter in mine. I opened up the washer and couldn't find any pre pump filter. I was able to call Maytag and they told me our washing machine did not have a pre-pump filter.

My maytag MAH8700WN will not go into the spin cycle, i have checked the pump and cleaned it cleaned the drain line. nothing still.

  • Randy Kluber Apr 16, 2013

If it will not go into spin cycle I would check the door switch to make sure it is making. That could keep your machine from going into spin just like any top loader.

  • vince Apr 20, 2023

Also try unpluging it for 2 minutes to see if it resets to factory settings

Front load washer shakes violently during spin cycle

On something like this you will need to remove the washer wrap to inspect the suspension springs & base assembly. Please see the link provided for accessing the inside of the washer. Be sure the shipping pins have been removed. The tub should float freely.
