Sony LCD Problem...

I have a 40" Sony Bravia LCD HD Monitor purchased from Sears in 1/2007. I worked and looked great for about 6 months. Last month the problems began. Seemingly at random, the screen goes black and the power light turns off. It might go out for 5 seconds or so then comes back on. It does this repeatedly no matter how long the TV has been on. At first it was annoying, now it's gotten worse to where its unwatchable. I have it plugged directly into the wall outlet by itself (nothing else plugged in). I've tried it in different outlets as well and it doesnt fix it. Also, I have plugged other electronic equip into those outlets to make sure there is sufficient power supply (i.e. surround sound stereo, cable box, PS2, wireless router) and all other equipment works fine. It's under warrenty and I have a sears tech coming on 9/27, however, I would like some background on what it might be before the tech comes. Plus, it's hard to wait 2 weeks without a working TV. HELP!!

I have the exact same problem as the first person. Mine has now turned itself off and has been off now for about 1 & 1/2 hours without coming back on.

I have the same problem. It turns itself on and off at infrequent, irregular intervals. Repair shop can't isolate the problem.

We have the same problem about this tv. We bought it in March 2007 and about 6 months after, the tv screen turns on and off like everyone's issue was. Now it totally died! The sony-preferred repair people said that this model has a G2 power board issue. We're glad we read this webpage because it seems like it is not the case. There's no guarantee that the power board will fix it.

The repair people said that the issue lies on the power board but also how we plug in the equipment especially if you live in an apartment. They said the power distribution in the building (especially in older apartments) are sort of uneven and it screws up this part of the tv. They recommended that if get the power board replaced that we should use this "surge protector" kind of unit and plug the tv - and never plug the tv directly to the wall outlet.

It's good to know that it's not just us that got screwed over by sony. If anyone would be filing a law suit with this issue - let us know......

I bought my sony KLV0U100M 11/26/2006,  then suddenly on October 23, 2008 I came home from work sat down to watch my Sony, and nothing happened.  It was dead!! I could barely see a light on the sides of the TV, when the place is in darkness.  The power, standby, etc, led lights on the front of the TV were working, just no picture, but I did have sound.  I quickly got on Sony sites, googled, followed suggestions, etc., but nothing worked.  Fortunately for me I purchased the 3 yr extended warranty recommended by Sears at the time.  I said well great, let me call Sears.  Sears was good, I got an appointment 11/7/2008 (figured I can put up without my TV until then), coupled with the fact that I would have to lose a day from work since the in-home service warranty calls for service anywhere between 8 AM - 5 PM.  Ok they show up 11/7/2008, couldn't fix the problem, said a part was bad, and had to be ordered.  I reschedule another fix date, the earliest 11/21/2008 (making sure I receive the part in the mail before they showed up).  I didn't want to lose another day from work just for a TV, so I figured the first time they showed at 10:19 AM, and was done by 12:30 PM., so I would hang in there until 12:00 noon, and leave for work 1/2 day.  When they didn't show up by 12:00 noon, I had to make special arrangements with my son to be here when they show up, they finally arrived around 3:45 PM (glad I didn't wait around for them).   My son calls me at work after 5 PM, to tell me they couldn't fix the TV, and had to re-order another part, and that was it.   I waited around hoping to hear from them as to when /what was going to happen.  So today (now that I finally have some free time), I call Sears to figure out what is happening, they explained me what is happening, and ask me when did I want to schedule another appointment.  Trying to re pro-active, I said to the representative, can't I just bring in the TV for service, thus not having to worry about in-home service ?  I was told, that this is not possible because the TV is past the size limit of 27 inches, and would have to be serviced in the home.  So now I have to reschedule another day, this time December 8, to have them come in and fix the TV (oh yes someone has to be in the home between 8 AM - 5 PM, and this process can go one for an additional 2 more times before I get the chance to get a TV replacement, or I can rent a TV upon approval, and then get refunded after my TV is repaired).  People have to work to pay for these TVs, and the service plans that are offered with them, if you have to continually lose work time, because of this - then this is not really a good process.   If there is a solution, or sony recall on these TVs' out there, I couldn't find it.  Does anyone know of any recalls on this type of TV?

I PURCHASED MY SONY BRAVIA HDTV KLV- 40 U100M FROM SEARS , JANUARY 2008 AND MY TV WENT OUT (PITCH BLACK SCREEN). NO PICTURE NO SOUND ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF A DVD MOVIE I WAS WATCHING ON A FEW NIGHTS AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED ( 3 DAYS AFT). SONY SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR LABOR BUT I WOULD HAVE PAY TO SERVICE CALL & TAXES OF REPAIR. I LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME & DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS FOR THE REPAIR. I JUST THINK ITS A SHAME THEY CAN'T HELP ANY BETTER. ALSO IT'S KIND OF STRANGE HOW THERE ARE OTHERS EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AS WELL. I ACTUALLY THINK ITS EVEN MORE WEIRD THAT CAN HAPPENED SO SOON & JUST WHEN THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. NOT FAIR! I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN A LAWSUIT IF ANY ONE IS DOING ONE.

Same thing here POS tv won't turn on. Damn Sony thieves. Let's all get together and just keep calling until they're so sick of listening they send us new tv's. Maybe we can get them to buy us Panasonics, those rarely ever die. Lol. Seriously thought let's all call and keep calling,

Same exact problem. Bought through Sears two years ago, it would occassionally power down, then power back up, but now it is completely dead. Had a Sears tech take a look and they informed me that the power supply needed to be replaced, so $446 later, it is repaired (for now). I called Sony to seek some sort of compensation for at least the part, not labor, but they act like they have never heard of this problem before with their Bravia line. Obviously from this site, it's more than just me who has this problem. I guess all I can do is voice my displeasure to Sony. I used to think Sony meant "Quality", now I think "High Priced".

I have the same problem. 2 yr old 40" LCD Bravia. Turned on and off for a period of time, then quit working altogether after 2 yrs. Sony acts like this is not a common problem and would do nothing to help with the nearly $500 repair to replace the power source.

My t.v. just went out as well...how convenient because my warrenty just went out a couple weeks ago. From what I have heard from many different repair people that the problem is with the power supply board. Since I also bought the tv from sears here is my plan. I puchased the new board through sony which is only $150. I am going to swap it out with the old one and pray for the best. I have talked to sears about getting the buyer protection for the tv after a year after i purchased it and they will charge you a higher price for the warranty as long as the tv is still functioning. If all goes well with the repair i will get sears on the phone instantly because a service guy has to come out and verify that it functions properly.

i got the part and replaced the G2 board. the tv worked fine for ten minutes then when i was completed with the assembly and tried it again the power would not come back on...now im stuck with a g2 board that is non refundable. I may look into getting an A board since that is what other people are saying is the culprit. I'll let you guys know how this works.

Check the U24 (CPU reset IC) on the "A" board. It may be burned. If you have a DVM (voltmeter) check for 3.3V across SW1 connections near this device. If you don't have 3.3V, U24 is bad. This part is not available from Sony. The TV may work if you just remove U24 from the board. I posted this fix on Agoraquest also, you can read more there (I'm "Roundabout" on that forum). Hope that helps.

Uh, oh. I just purchased the same tv. I would love to know if replacing the board will fix the problem forever. If the boards are not good, how would a replacement help if it also lasts a short time?

Any feedback?

Tv turns off on its own and now it will not power on

TV parts are only expected to work for 3-5 years. It could be the power board, or it could be a bad backlight. 500 dollar repair minimum, I suppose.

Sony BRAVIA KDL46S2010 Sound and Pix not in sync - in HDTV channels only

This is a software issue with both the TV manufacture and the cable box provider. This will only be fixed when the cable company and TV manufacture sit down and work out their problem. Some cable company has taken the first step by updating cable boxes with different software.
