I used a different simpletech external drive, renamed it R drive and downloaded some material on my computer. Now I have reconnected the newer simpletech external drive and my computer does not recognize it as a device that needs to be recognized. I have tried rebooting several times.
I have a simpletech external drive that was working, but after i disconnect it unproperlly, i was getting the message <usb not recongnize>. I called simpletech, but customer service is ****, and anyway the drive inside is a hitahi, i have another simpletech and the drive inside is a western digital, whatever...
They told be to go to best buy to make a recover, so i called and they told me it s 250$, and if they cant do it, they will send it to a labotory witch cost 1700$, crazy ******* hein?
I red about getting drivers, putting the hdd in a fridge and much more stupid thing, BUT THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE, OPEN THE CASE, UNDER THE ALLUMINIUM STICKER THERE IS 2 SCREWS, REMOVE THEM, OPEN THE CASE, TAKE THE HDD INSIDE OUT AND REMOVE THE ADAPTER CONNECTED TO THE HDD(WHERE YOU CONNECT THE USB CABLE) CAUSE THIS IS THE PART CAUSING THE PROBLEM, THE HARD DRIVE IS OK AND YOU DIDN T LOOSE NOTHING. So now what you can do is just buy a new case for laptop hard drive (with a new usb adapter included), or buy another simpleshit hdd and switch the adapter part or just buy an adapter to make your hdd an usb hdd and Voila, and after that i suggest you buy yourself a better hdd than simpleShit and make a new backup.
I had a similar problem with a SimpleTech Ext HD (1TB) and Vista. Try disconnecting the power source from the back of the drive and reconnecting it. Give it 15 or 20 seconds. This works for me. Unfortunately I have to do it each time my laptop goes to sleep, but that's not a hard problem to get around.
Assuming Windows, try the Device Manager and see if the (old) disk is listed there in the disk drives section.
If so, right-click it and select Uninstall. (do this while the new driver is disconnected)
That should force Windows to recognize and reinstall the new drive when you plug it again.
For other causes check out the external hard disk problems.
I used the first solution, after having the issue of the linux and windows computer not recognising it. I removed the power whilst it was still 'connected' to the computer, and then replaced the power a few seconds later, and walla!- magic, b"h, it worked!
