I recently changes the fluid for my CRTs. After changing the fluid, set powered on but needed converging. I attempted to use my remote to access the menu function but couldn't access the menu. After a day or so, the set stopped coming on completely, the power light comes on but nothing else. I reopened the set to see if I had put a wire back incorrectly, but didnt see where that was the case. The only wires I have that are of any question are the ones that connect to 1896 and 1895 located on the Blue CRT board, does anyone know where they connect, I have the scematics but it doesnt tell what they connect to. I've read on other forums where it could be a bad resistor and that I could check them with a digital oltimeter, but I've never used one before and need some laymans explanation on how to use it. I have already tried to contact a repair man to help with diagnosing the problem but have been told that my problem culdnt be dianosed with the $40 diagnostic fee, (which sounds asinine to me), any help would be greatly appreciated.

usually the low voltages are attributed to a capacitor that is not performing right under load. however the only way to diagnose the capacitors is in circuit with an ESR meter, those are very exspensive unless you purchase a kit and put it together yourself. I know the following link has the ESR meter kit that needs to be assembled for a reasonable price. You may want to consider getting one, the other alternative is buying a capacitance meter and removing each capacitor from circuit and checking them. here is the link that may be your best bet they do offer free tech support as well.

check the screen voltage, the filaments to the crt, the high voltage at least on 1 crt

time for some old fashioned trouble shooting. first divide the issues... the remote not working could possibly be a connection issue.
second you can do a soft reset ... unplug the tv for about four hours.
third is to check for cold solder joints. that requires first smacking the tv (yep pretty old fashioned test). if anything changes you need to localize where the problem is.
You need to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL for this next part. power on the tv and tap components on the circuit board gently with a non conducting item. even a hollow pen would do... or something plastic.
Be aware that you are dealing with electricity so be very careful with that.
any changes on the screen as you tap components indicate most likely bad solder joints... after you have unplugged the set resolder those components.
also inspect by feel the capacitors on the circuit board .... feel for rounded tops. any you find need replacement... not the values of the component as well as the orientation of them.
I will stress again... when you are testing for bad solder joints be aware that it is electricity you are dealing with and it has the potential to kill you.
