My brush bar is not rotating as other people have mentioned. I have taken out the brush, cleaned and reinserted. I have pressed the red reset button as hard and as long as I can. I have followed the advice given to other people. It still does not work. Actually, I use this vacuum quite infrequently, but every EVERY time I use it, the brush shuts down within minutes and the red reset button never works. That thing is useless. I have called help in the past and eventually, and forcing me to go through all the troubleshooting tips that I already did, they tell me another way to reset the vacuum. I should really write that down. Anyway, what is the other way?

I had a similar issue. I called Dyson. Hey why not, the number is right on the from of the machine. SO IS the beater bar on/off button, right next to the big red on/off switch. It does have a safety off when something jams the bar from rotating so the motor doesn't burn out. I also removed my sock and on restarting the thing, the beater bar would motor was not turning on. I thought the reset would be inside but no, it is right outside in plain view, which I didn't see either. It is a grey button opposite the big red on/off switch. Boy did I feel dumb after that phone call!

SOURCE: DC 07 BRUSH BAR DOES NOT TURN BELT OK

Stand vacuum up and with it plugged in. Rotate knob between carpet and bare floor and back 5 times leaving it on carpet when finished. Rotate vacuum back from upright position and lay vacuum on the floor, rotating it onto its side. Turn vacuum on.

SOURCE: Dyson 18 slim the rotating brush bar will not

If the DC18 has a proteted belt then it will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer or repairer. If the cleaner has a removable sole plate where the beater bar is then remove it and replace the belt - sounds like the belt has snapped and needs to be replaced. if your DC18 is still relatively new it should still be under guarantee.

SOURCE: The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

The brush is not rotating. The grey button that is supposed to initiate some safety mechanism does nothing.

Hi Jane, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 includes a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. It's protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar for protection if something jams it in use. Usually, following each of the steps shown in our video guide will allow you to reset your machine:

Press the red reset button on the cleaner head firmly with something like the eraser-end of a pencil - you should hear and feel a click. The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

Please note, the silver-coloured switch next to the red/on off switch should allow you to shut off the brush bar when cleaning hard floors or delicate rugs.

How do I get my brushes on my dyson 25 to reset??

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25's brush bar will shut off for protection if something jams it. Even if the brush bar looks clean it's a good idea to remove it as shown in the video, just to ensure there's nothing caught in the endcap or anywhere else that could be causing an issue.

The brush bar will never rotate when the vacuum is standing upright, so please make sure you recline your machine into the normal vacuuming position before testing it. With the machine reassembled, plugged in, turned on and reclined, press the silver brush control switch (next to the red on/off switch) twice.

If this doesn't resolve the issue we would be happy to provide further assistance. If a repair or a replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if your machine is within the Dyson guarantee period. Just give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Our DC41 is impossible to push on carpet. Is there an adjustment to do? Almost like there is too much suction.

See if the following information can help.

CARPETS OR HARD FLOORS

• The brush bar will always default to 'ON' (spinning) each time you switch the

appliance 'ON' and recline it for cleaning.

• The brush bar will not rotate when the appliance is upright.

• To switch the brush bar 'OFF' (e.g. for delicate rugs and hard floors):

- switch the appliance 'ON'

- recline the appliance

- press the brush bar 'ON/OFF' button - the brush bar will stop spinning.

• The brush bar will automatically stop if it becomes obstructed. See 'Brush bar -

clearing obstructions'.

• Before vacuuming your flooring, rugs and carpets, check the manufacturer's

recommended cleaning instructions.

• Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this

happens, we recommend vacuuming in 'hard floor' mode and consulting with

the flooring manufacturer.

• The brush bar on the appliance may damage some carpet types. If you are
unsure, turn 'OFF' the brush bar.

Can't get the Dyson 24 to switch from flat floor to carpet mode. What should I do?

Hi Lee, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24's cleaner head is engineered to adjust automatically when you move from one floor surface to another - there are no fiddly height adjustment dials or levers to adjust. When cleaning hard floors or delicate rugs, you can also use the silver brush control switch (next to the red on/off switch) to turn off the brush bar:

If the brush bar doesn't seem to rotate at all, you may need to reset your machine as shown in the video below. You may find it helps to press the red reset button with something like the eraser-end of a pencil. You should hear and feel a click as it engages:

I have removed the obstructions in the brush bar and the brushes still will not rotate. What else can I check?

Hi Genie, it's Jack at Dyson.

Once you've cleared any obstructions from around the brush bar and inside the cleaner head, you need to reset the machine. This is easy to do - just press the button in the red recess on the side of the cleaner head. It can help to use the eraser end of a pencil to press the button.

The procedure is shown in the video below. The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so please make sure you recline it into the vacuuming position before testing it.

My dyson vacuum brush bar will not rotate and the belt is not broke. The hand tool works fine. What is wrong?

I took the plate off and cleaned up the vacuum brush bar. Since the belt was not broke I knew that was not the problem. I know when the setting is bare floor, the brush bar will not rotate. That was not the problem. I just keep turning the knob from bare floor to carpet, several times. The setting must have been "off" just a bit because after several times turning it, it must have reset in the proper setting. The brush bar did start rotating just like normal.
