Our Brother 4070 printer continues to show the error message that the black toner cartridge is at the end of its life. We replaced the cartridge twice with new (not refilled) cartridges, put black tape over what I thought might be a sensor window/hole, and reinstalled the printer. Nothing worked.
Help!
Hi
Just cover the eyes (on both sides) that you can see in the bottom of the machine after removing the imaging cartrige with a small piece of electrical tape.
With printer switched on push the switch which is located inside the upper left side of printer (it is a small white switch) and then release it.
Also try resetting the gear, take the cartridge out. On the gear side take off 2 screws, the black gear on top right side, with a small spring underneath. Just take it off and reset it (rotate clockwise) so it is not at the stopping point.

Hi
Did you choose replace ink by pressing the ink managment button?
Also tell me if you can see any error number displayed on your printer.
The white switch is located on the upper left corner in 4070 series. However this button doesn't affect the functioning of the cartridge much. Have you tried resetting the gear. Take the cartridge out and on the gear side take off 2 screws, the black gear on top right side, with a small spring underneath. Just take it off and reset it (rotate clockwise) so it is not at the stopping point.
Remove the cartridge fromm the printer and unplug your printer and then plug it back after 2 min.s and when it asks for cartridge then insert the toner cartridge in it. And then again take the cartridge out while the printer is on, close the cover, reopen the cover, reinstall the cartridge and again close the cover will reset the machine to recognize the new, full cartridge.
The easiest way to reset it is to
1) open the printer.
2) remove the offending cartridge.
3) shut off the printer while leaving the printer lid open.
4) reinstall the ink cartridge when prompted on the display.
5) shut the cover.
6) input the code number for "yes, cartridge replaced" when prompted. The ink level will be reset to full and the printer will self clean.
And, if that doesn't help then go through the menu of the printer and do a "factory reset".
Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

3) shut off the printer while leaving the printer lid open.
4) reinstall the ink cartridge when prompted on the display.
Um, you could be waiting a very long time for the display to prompt you with the printer turned off. Perhaps there needs to be a step 3a) turn printer on ?

My question had nothing to do with labels being stuck in the printer. My question is how do I get the printer to stop showing the "End of Life" message when the black toner cartridge has been replaced with a completely new cartridge? I replaced it TWICE with new (not refilled) cartridges, but it still refuses to print, showing only the red screen on the menu box, saying that the cartidge was at end of life, had run out of toner.
How do I get it to print again!
We put tape over the sensor windows, and that did not help. We looked for the white switch inside the printer, and we cannot find one, at all. Are you referring to a 4070CDW printer??????
