Fn button not responding, touch pad not zooming/scrolling etc

Hello, I have an Asus eeepc 1000He. the Fn button has been functioning since I bought it but it can't do anything right now except brightening and dimming the screen. it comes with wonderful touch pad options such as zooming, scolling with two fingers, flipping pages with three fingers. It is now not working as well. I checked control panel and the touchpad is indeed enabled. what should i do?!
Thanks,
Cindy

The volume keys activated by the FN key do not work. They work at first but no longer work.

Have you tried to restore to an earlier point before this has happened. this might work. go to control panel add/remove programs and then try it too.

First off thry this go to control panel and then system and click on device manager and see if there are any yellow circles or triangles on any of the devices if so you can right click that device and either update or roll back the driver
hope this helps

O have a eee notebook. An antivirus programme attached it self to my system, asking me to purchase. I tried to get rid of it with no success. I turned off the notebook, re started pressing f 8. Tried running it in safe mode, the whole thing freezes once this is done. Everyother option on the f 8 menu, gets no response. Any ideas.

Thanks

Paul

Eee pc r101 keyboard not working properly. Some of the keys won't type the correct letters and type the function letter or symbol instead or just random numbers. Also the touch pad and mouse click is...

The keyboard takes a lot of abuse and as durable as it is, they will eventually wear out. It is a very inexpensive part to replace and does not require a lot of skill. The fact that the touch pad is acting up could indicate that they are interconnected. I would replace both. The Touch pad is a more involved part to replace and I would suggest you get some help or pay to have it replaced.

You can order them off of sites like eBay, then watch a YouTube video on how to do it.

I need an explanation as to the secondary function of the keys on my NB305. Mainly the top row of 'F' keys, but the remainder of the keyboard as well. What do all these little symbols on the keys mean?

F1 through F12 are called function keys because they execute programmed functions when pressed. Used in combination with the Fn key, keys marked with icons execute specific functions on the computer. The function executed by individual keys depends on the software you are using.

1. Sound Mute: Pressing Fn + ESC in a windows environment turns sound on or off. Press Fn + Enter to simulate Enter or the enhanced keyboard's numeric keypad. 2. Instant security: Press Fn + F1 to blank the screen to prevent others from accessing your data. To restore the screen and original setting, press any key or press the Touch Pad. 3. Power save mode: Pressing Fn + F2 changes the power save mode. 4. Standby: When you press Fn + F3, the computer enters Standby. 5. Hibernation: When you press Fn + F4, the computer enters Hibernation. 6. Display selection: Press Fn + F5 to change the active display device. Hold down Fn and press F5 again to change the device. 7. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F6 decreases the display brightness in decrements. 8. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F7 increases the display brightness in increments. 9. Wireless setting: If your computer has both Bluetooth and Wireless LAN functions, you can press Fn + F8 to select which type of wireless communication you want to use. 10. Touch Pad: Pressing Fn + F9 in a windows environment enables or disables the Touch Pad function. 11. Press Fn + F10 or Fn + F11 to access the integrated keypad. When activated, the keys with gray markings on the bottom edge become numeric keypad keys (Fn + F11) or cursor control keys (Fn + F10). The power on default for both settings is off. Press Fn + F12 (ScrLock) to lock the cursor on a specific line. The power on default is off. 12. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (reduce): To reduce the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 1 key while holding down the Fn key. (13. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (enlarge): To enlarge the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 2 key while holding down the Fn key.

Mouse pad not moving the cursor

Hello,

There will be a Fn combination for the mouse pad. Please have a look on the fn (F1 to F12) keys on top of the keyboard and you will find the mouse pad symble on any one.
Press that function key with fn key (usually with windows button) and the touch pad will start working.

Thanks.

I have an Asus K60 Laptop.I can not figure out how to turn off the touch pad, as I am using a wireless external mouse instead of the touchpad on the laptop.Any clues?

Did you try the FN key and F9...
That is what they say to disable your touchpad

You have a function key which is called Fn That key allows you to use the functions on the F series keys

So Fn then F9 should do the trick

Laptop Touchpad - cursor random dragging problem

On my acer all I have to do is press function F7, Function is the button with 'Fn' on it. I am not sure if that works for HP, but its worth a try. Also, is there a switch near the touchpad? Sometimes there is one that switches the touch pad on and off. You can also try other Fn(function) F1 or Fn F2 etc. and see if one of the other "f" buttons work.  I hope this helps, let me know how you made out. Good Luck!
