Have an Onkyo a/v receiver, model tx-nr809, victim of lightning strike. When power cord is plugged in I hear one click about every two seconds. No other signs of life.

Found a blown fuse, replaced it. Unit powers up now, but I have no audio or video output and the cooling fans are not spinning up.

Capacitors, transistors, and a couple resistors. Internal repair. A shop will charge anywhere from 100-200 depending on time and parts.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR 606 KEEPS CLICKING INSTEAD OF TURNING ON WHEN POWERED

Here are your options:

1. An electrical problem, where your receiver has a grounding problem.
2. Your speaker wire connections are actually touching each other and that's why your receiver is not turning on.

SOURCE: Powered Or Unpowered Subwoofers For Onkyo TX-8511

Greg- Powered subs are better than non-powered subs (also known as passive subs), anyway I see the TX-8511 has no sub pre-out on the back panel, so you need to decide what sub you will use and run from the receivers left and right speakers output into a subwoofers speaker in from speakers then back out to speakers, look at the back of a subwoofer and you will see like 4 sets of speaker hookups 2 in and 2 out, what this does is takes the low end or bass and drops the signal to the subwoofer then takes the mids and highs out to your left and right speakers, unless your regular left and right stereo speakers have large woofers a sub is the way to go.

0-83 error on onkyo tx nr 555

The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update.

Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2:
Unplug all cables
Un-Power the receiver
Power the receiver
Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration.

Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will clear the BIOS and show a "Clear" message on the display. Wait until you hear a couple of clicking sounds for the receiver to turn on and off the power.

TX-SR803 with no sound or popping hissing on any input

It is common for a short term power surge to open up the internal fuse in the main power transformer. Without testing some components inside the unit, I really can't say for sure whether or not the unit is worth repair. I would suggest that you invest in a detailed repair estimate at an authorized Onkyo service center.

Keep us posted.

TX-SR504 receiver won't turn on

Had same on an ONKYO TX-505 given to me for repair - eventually found a broken track on top circuit board that came from a transistor that control the main power on relay - looked like it was burnt off for a section of about 1.2mm

Repaired the track and has worked ever since

Onkyo TX-DS989 not staying on

This sounds like the action of some protection circuit that is monitoring some condition or voltage that isn't within its design limits. If it was mine, I'd look for an Onkyo forum to see if others have experienced the same problem.

Onkyo TX-8522 stuck on standby

This is Not a real Fix, However it stops the problem!
Do not plug any power cords into the Receiver.  I have found that using the "switched or unswitched" plugs in the back cause the trouble.
