Regarding thread bunching up underneath the fabric on the Singer CG -590: my husband just discovered that I had my thread incorrectly wound through the first thread guide. It was allowing too much slack in the thread. I missed the piece that is described in the manual as follows: "Lead thread passing it first under the thread guide. Next through the upper slot, leading the thread to the right and around."

I have the same problem with my singer 3810. The thread loops up under the fabric and I don´t really know where I should tighten the screw??
I bought a CG590 the otherday and having trobles back stitching , the machine goes fine forward, but reverse the material will bunch up.
Is there anyone else having this problem and fix it, or any help oout there. Thanks Lydia
