Pixma IP 4200 does not print

One day my IP4200 just stopped printing. Two long phone calls to Canon did nothing. I've downloaded the latest drivers after deleting the old ones and still nothing. We logged in on a root account (mac G4 OSX 10.4) and still no printing. It will perform a test print but just blinks green when asked to print a regular job.I finally tested this printer on another computer (mac G3 OSX 10.3) and it works. So I guess I know it's not the printer. It seems to work fine on the G3. Very frustrating--is there something else beside drivers? Is printer software something different? Please help! I posted this problem originally on 8/2/07. Thanks!

I have a similar problem with a network 4200...all of a sudden, it stops printing. No test pages, no maintenance, no docs. All cables are in, power off and on, printer reloaded in router (airport extreme). In the past, reloading the printer has worked. Not this time. Any suggestions?

So here is what I have found... when you install the canon drivers build 483 the printing will work but only on standard page prints.  When I do a picture... the printing stops half way through... and nothing.!!!!

Then I install the GIMP versions... and we are all good.

Try to install the other drivers... and same result.... It must be something to do with the Canon Drivers.

On the first question it sounds like the Mac might have a problem with its port. Check cable, try another device in that port. You really should ask around on a Mac site as this is not a printer problem since it works on another machine.

For the second person, you're using the machine plugged into a network? Is it plugged into router? If you're having an IP address conflict, you can get the problems you're describing. Make sure that you use a static IP address that is much higher address than any dynamic machines might be assigned.

For example, if you're using dynamic IPs, for example in the area of 192.168.1.100 and up. If you have four OTHER devices on your network, they may be 192.168.1.101, .102, .103, .104. So, the highest IP address they should be assigned is 192.168.1.104. Too allow for guest IP addresses, you should set your printer to be 192.168.1.109 so none of your devices or a guests device will ever be able to have a conflicting address.

Printing

Start with the printer all plugged in but switched off, then install the right drivers for your OS. If you are running Win7 you will have to download the latest drivers from the Canon website as the drivers on the included CD only go up to XP. READ all the instructions on the drivers install process, they will tell you when to switch on the printer. It should all be fine after that.

Big black vertical line on back of the paper.PIXMA CanoniP4200

Your black ink seems to have spilled a bit at the nozzle. The fact is even if you do nothing it should seize staining the back of the paper after a while, so long as the spill is only temporal. But if you want it over with quickly, you may try printing quite good number of pages till you see that the stops. With every print you will most certainly observe that the stain will reduce. Otherwise if you can reach into the printer with a stick or something, you may try to clean it.

Pixma 4200 on mac - can't find print options

There is a nice video here: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0015
(for photoshop printing, which has more selections regarding paper type, etc. ) Otherwise when you do commmand-P or Print, a dialog box comes up with pull-down menus. Check the third pull down menu (under presets) and it will let you choose lots of stuff

IP4200 will not print pictures

This is an Internet Explorer problem.Using Vista O/S Windows IE seems to associate some or all of its searches with NotePad, and therefore prints out the source code. I could not find a solution, or a method of changing the file association in Vista or in IE, so I downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and this works fine with Vista. So, from now on I just ignore IE

There must be a better fix than this, but this has got my computer working again for now.

Printer stopped printing suddenly

Hi there , i had a similar problem with the Canon Pixma IP 5000 when hooking up a wireless network. It stopped printing & the only solution was to uninstall printer/software,reboot & install as if you were hooking up printer for the first time.Sometimes software can be a problem if not installed in the right order.I had to completely remove sound card software after installing with antivirus already running.Antivirus had to go on last for everything to work.Still fine after 3 years! Hope you get printer running on newer OS.
