Hotpoint WD860P washer dryer The mother board blew resistor hence I replaced the mother board, since then the washing cycle is counting down to say 22 minuets remaining then going back to 40 minuets remaining, on the advice of the mother board providers I changed the pressure switch and the water heater eliment has been proved correct on a test meter the heater thermostat has also been replaced, but still it takes twice as long for the cycle to complete, I sent the motherboard back and they have tested it and their reply was " the board is fine the dryer thermostat is either open or short circuit," I haven't tested the dryer thermostats as yet but what has the dryer thermostat got to do with the water heater, and why is it taking twice as long to complete a wash cycle, Any help / advice would be appreciated, as I can't just keep buying parts hoping it fixes the fault John

hi pw82,
its seems you're doing your home work. that cylindrical part is the thermostat itself. it should have a resistance in the range of kilo ohms. around 10 kohm to 25 kohms. you can try to change the range of your testing equipment so that you could be sure that te thermostat is really open circuit.
if there is no resistance, then that is the problem. if there is resitance in the kilo ohms range then it could still be ok and you need todo some further testing.
you can check for voltage presence at the terminlas of the heater. if there is no voltage then it could be the relay on the power board that supply voltage to the heater.
or the board itself.
i hope i was able to help..please rate me..tnx

Effectively it looks like a water heating problem.
When the water cannot be heated sufficiently, the machine waits until water reaches desired temperature.
So that the program takes longer to complete.
Heating problems can be caused by:
Faulty heating element
Faulty heating element solenoid.
Faulty thermic switch (in this case the water will get hotter than normal)
The heating element and the solenoid can be tested for continuity using a multimeter.
If the machine is slow to fill check also that the inlet valve is fine and not obstructed.

Hi
When the dryer won't heat and everything else works fine it is the thermal fuse that has gone bad and should be replaced, this fuse is located inside the back panel. However, after reading your post the issue can also be a bad part that you have received, but as it was working so I believe it is the fuse that is bad, you can test it with a voltmeter as well before replacing. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.
