The washer does not drain the water out after the wash cycle. It started a month ago not spinning the water out enough but now it simply doesn't do it at all. This is weird to me because I can put the washer on the regular wash cycle and it works. It won't release the water or spin out after the wash cycle. Any help you can give me I really appreciate. I'm stuck with a washer full of water.
Check the lid switch when you lower the lid you should hear a small clicking sound.
Sometimes you have to press down on the lid where the prong inserts into the opening on the inside top lip of the machine. Sometimes I'll leave a bottle of bleach on the lid to keep it tightly pressed down so the full cycle will go uninterrupted.
It's the control selector. They are kind of pricey (around $65) but fairly easy to replace. Screw the center of the control knob off counter clockwise, pull of the rear part of the control knob and you'll find two screws holding it on. Take the top of the control panel off and the selector can be removed. A new selector can be purchased at any appliance parts house. Take a picture of how the wires plug into the selector if needed. then its juts a matter of swapping them out and putting it all abck together. Takes about 30 minutes.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, WHICH IS WHY I AM ONLINE RESEARCHING THIS MODEL TO SEE THE SIZE, AS I WISH TO PURCHASE A LARGER MORE RELIABLE WASHER. IN THE MEANTIME, I FILL THE WASHER UP. LET THE CYCLE FINISH WITH THE LID UP. THE NEXT CYCLE WILL NOT START WITH LID UP. LET THE WATER DRAIN AND FILL UP AGAIN FOR THE RINSE. WHEN COMPLETE, OPEN THE LID AGAIN AND WAIT FOR CYCLE TO COMPLETE. WHEN CLOSING THE LID IT MAY NOT CATCH AND SPIN. IN THAT EVENT, LIFT THE LID AND CLOSE IT. REPEAT AS MANY TIMES AS NECESSARY IT WILL EVENTUALLY CATCH, AS FRUSTRATING AS IT MAY BE.
The timer has probably gone out.

The symptoms you describe are often caused by a lid switch malfunction. The switch may be loose or not making good contact. As you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. For instructions on how to replace a lid switch, click on the following link:

This is a simple and inexpensive repair if you wish to accomplish this on your own. A replacement switch usually cost between $25 and $35. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you require further assistance.

this is the site to find out how to fix your washer.
you have a broken drive coupling.
it probably wont agitate or spin, but will fill and drain.
you need to remove 2 screws from the control panel, hinge it back and then remove the 2 brass colored clips that hold the cabinet to the base. once you do then pull the entire cabinet forwards to a 45 degree angle and pull it off the base.
then pull the 2 clips off pump and then 2 more on the motor. that will allow you to get to the drive coupling. you will find it to be broken.
replace it with part number 285753a for about 15-20 bucks.
SOURCE: Whirlpool Ultimate Care Heavy Duty Washer will not spin
It sounds like you have a broken motor coupling. This is a very inexpensive and simple repair.
If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top
The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

After the rinse cycle, the washer just seems to shut off. It won't drain to spin. I've tried draining on all 3 different wash settings and nothing. There's no motor sound like it is hung up, it just completely stops.

Help!?
My washer won't Drain. When reaching the spin/drain cycle it buzzes but does not drain.
I experienced the same porblem. Water does not drain. On the spin cycle no movement but a hum of sorts. Think it is the water pump but just guessing at this point.
Have a kenmore 80 series washer. Water does not drain no mater which cycle is selected. Went for the quick fix and replaced the timer. Not the answer. Now trying to figure out how the pump works.
water will not drain
i have the same washer and it stopped draining
Coinciently, I had the same problem yesterday on my 4 year old Kenmore washer. I read this and the solution by jsrock516 it was extremely helpful. I checked my lid switch and it was fine. However, the washer on the lid strike was "distorted"/out of shape. I stuck a pen into the lid switch and the washer started. I shaved a 1/16 inch portion of the lid strike washer and the problem was fixed.
Hi, My washing machine will not switch cycles on its own. I can turn the knob manually and it will run through all cycles. I was investigating information on the timer. Not sure if it could be another problem.
same problem
When trying to wash and turning dial to put in water it spins
washer fills up but will not wash, after resting for a while it pumps out the water this happens in the regular cycle.
