KAWS977EQ0 top load, direct drive washing machine. Washer fills, agitiates, and then when it is supposed to pump out and then spin the motor seems to get stuck. You can hear it hum as it attempts to spin, but it just hums and then starts to smell, slightly burnt odour. It is NOT the motor coupling, NOT the lid switch, NOT a sock in the pump. I am left with a full tub of sudsy water and clothes. Please help.

SOURCE: Clothes washer just makes a noise like a gear spinning ?

I was having the same problem with mine so I took it apart. There is a plastic coupler-like device that connects the drive motor to shaft which allows your "spin" cycle to commence. This coupler has posts in side it but they are under the little belt. My posts were all broken so the bottom piece of the coupler was spinning but the top was not, so it just made a humming noise. SOURCE: Pump Replacement for Washer??

Hi, It does sound like something might be in the pump. You might be able to rremove the pump by tipping the washer against the wall and removing the clips off the pump and hoses to release it from the motor. Here is the instructions to remove the cabinet to get to the pump if the first idea doesn't work. Normal 0 Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screw are in front but, some models have the screws in back. They are on each end. Now raise the control panel up and let it rest on the hinges. Unplug the lid switch harness and locate the clips on each side (bronze in color) and release them.
Now the cabinet will lift off the frame and you can set it aside.
Make sure that the front lip of the cabinet slips under the rail of the frame. Ease the cabinet on the frame making sure the two rear sides of the cabinet set down on the tabs of the frame. Put the two clips back on that hold the cabinet and plug the lid switch back in. Fasten the control panel down and you are all set.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: Pump Replacement for Washer??

yes it is the pump motor, if you say when you close the door, it clicks but can you hear the motor humming, this is a sign the motor is seized up and the power is actually going to the motor, or test with and electric tester,, it is the pump motor I started typing before reading the whole statement,, good luck

hi Jlove.
Washer Fills but Does Not Agitate. If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drive washing machines do not have belts..

Washer motor turns, drum does not

Please be gentle with me if this is obviously not the problem, but I have made the mistake of running top load washers with the door open (which the washer notices and does not turn the basket. I fixed my problem by loading the washer, adding the detergent while the washing machine was filling and then closing the door. My washer worked fine with the door closed.
Again, please be gentle with me as you rate my helpfulness. OK?

Whirlpool model SM 8525079 fills with water but will not agitate or spin

If you have motor sounds after water fill, but no agitation or spin it could be a broken direct drive coupling. If it will not pump out water, there could be something stuck in the drain pump.

My whirlpool ultimate II washing machine fills up and agitate but does not spin or drains the water out. how can I fix it.

You have a bad motor. Your washer is a direct drive machine. It turns in one direction to agitate and the other direction to both spin and to pump. You have lost one direction in your motor.

Kenmore 70 Series Washing Machine Drains, But Won't Spin

Yes sir, a bad motor coupler could cause the machine not to spin. You did the right thing in checking out the lid switch and the pump first. It sounds as if the motor coupling is worn and may be slipping. I will attach a link to a video that may assist you. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.
