SOURCE: Kitchenaid top load washer will not spin
ck wiring to motor for loose connections at motor plug wiggle connector to see if motor will start
SOURCE: Clothes washer just makes a noise like a gear spinning ?
I was having the same problem with mine so I took it apart. There is a plastic coupler-like device that connects the drive motor to shaft which allows your "spin" cycle to commence. This coupler has posts in side it but they are under the little belt. My posts were all broken so the bottom piece of the coupler was spinning but the top was not, so it just made a humming noise. Hi, It does sound like something might be in the pump. You might be able to rremove the pump by tipping the washer against the wall and removing the clips off the pump and hoses to release it from the motor. Here is the instructions to remove the cabinet to get to the pump if the first idea doesn't work.

Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two
screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screw are in
front but, some models have the screws in back. They are on each end. Now raise
the control panel up and let it rest on the hinges. Unplug the lid switch
harness and locate the clips on each side (bronze in color) and release them.
Now the cabinet will lift off the frame and you can set it
aside.
Make sure that the front lip of the cabinet slips under the rail of the frame. Ease the cabinet on the frame making sure the two
rear sides of the cabinet set down on the tabs of the frame.
Put the two clips back on that hold the cabinet and
plug the lid switch back in. Fasten the control panel down and you are all set.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

yes it is the pump motor, if you say when you close the door, it clicks but can you hear the motor humming, this is a sign the motor is seized up and the power is actually going to the motor, or test with and electric tester,, it is the pump motor I started typing before reading the whole statement,, good luck
