Kyocera FS-920 7 years old. maybe 4,000 pages printed. printed a page, half hour later tried to print another page, and jammed. Because of location powered off printer, and did the unjam on desk. Put every thing back together, and had a noisy start up. Tried to print a page, and a sheet of paper came through blank, with mechanical noises. took out drum, and toner cartidges again, and reseated properly. Quiet start this time, but when paper feeds, it comes through blank. Tried doing a system report, blank, tried printing from c:\ prompt, blank. reinstalled driver. blank. Been quoted $125.00 + gst plus parts for a service call. Don't know which way to go.

Push in the charge corona assy. Its behind the left door. Each color has a cleaning rod and charge assy. I've seen this more than once.

there are a good few possibilities... your cheapest route is to call a local service tech... anything I tell you is going to cost you more... call him and see what he says... but I am leaning towards bad ram best case and worst case a blown main board...

Try the feed tires in the tray first. More than likely the paper is not being picked up and causing jam message. The separation roller also has a hub on it to prevent a second sheet from feeding. Sometimes these start to lock up ,a little oil on the hub sometimes relieves some of the tension.

You have not wasted your money on the new toner purchase. With a little maintenance, it can last a lifetime.

The "spidery deposits of toner" you are talking about could be caused by a dirty charger wire under the process unit. You mentioned that you just changed the toner cartridge, right? Did you remove the process unit and clean the charger wire under it after you changed the toner? The charger wire has to be cleaned with charger cleaner every time the toner container is replaced.

Do you have the manual which came with your printer? If so, then go to page 39 to find information on printer cleaning tasks. If you have not cleaned the charger wire, dust out the printer with a lint free dry cloth and change it when it looks soiled. Continue dusting and wiping until there is no dust on the cloth. Then remove the process unit (picture on page 39) and wipe out the area with a new lint free cloth until no dust is apparent on it.

Slide the green charger wire cleaner back and forth across the wire as instructed on page 43 of your manual. Reinsert the process unit.

The only other thing that can cause the problem with toner marks is if the registration roller is soiled with toner. Refer to page 18 for instructions on checking and fixing it.

Had paper jam, opened up, as done before, put everything back. went to print, blank page came out. reset, tried again, same story, reinstalled driver, no joy. been quoted $125 to have a service call...

It might be more interesting for you to get a new machine. If you shop carefully you may get a better one for a fraction of what you are asked to pay to have the old one repaired.
