My modem looses it's internet connection periodically. When connected to my laptop (Windows XP) there was not a problem. But when connected to my new Gateway (Windows Vista) I loose internet connection almost every 5 minutes. The lights on the modem turn off except for the power light and then they come back on again. Are there any solutions for this problem? Is it a Motorola problem?

You can try doing a "Hard reset" on the modem but it looks like you've tried most combinations. To do the hard reset: - unplug the coax cable from the back of the modem - Push and hold the "reset" button in for 15 seconds - Allow the modem 30 seconds to reinitialize and then plug the coax cable back in. Within 10minutes you should have activity back. If not, the modem needs to be replaced. I know you may have tried something similar to this but I'm hoping this may help.

I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.
Hope this helps.

if the power light is flashing then the modem is on battery backup and internet is disabled. plug the power cord into the modem or find a working power outlet, you should be set after that.
Power light flashing=bad

Update your drivers and then do a speed test. Most isp send updates to the subscribers when they update, yours may not. Don't forget to check all of your connections before wasting time calling your isp. I trust this test the most. Rember you don't always get what you pay for.
