When i use my dewalt dc925 drill on drill mode the tork kicks in meaning when i hit a bit of resistance the chuck stops moving. it works fine for screws and drilling but it wont drill through knots and hardwood
There is a gear and a clutch as agier said in the head. if its old it looses its catch, youll need to take it apart and look at it. the torque setting just tightens on the head the more you tighten it the less it will give( the ratcheting you hear when you set it low) .expensive drill so its worth trying to fix. how old is it? as for drilling thru knots and hard wood make sure your bits are sharp, you can spend alot of time trying to drill with a dull bit. do you sharpen your bits? i do alot of drilling with battery drill thruout the year and believe me a sharp bit is waaaay easier. though ive never had to sharpen concrete bit because they always break when they get old and i buy new.
so your saying it stops completley when you hit something hard, right. does it ratchet?
yea you never said you took it apart some of the hardest problems to fix are ones created when someone tries to fix something. i think you should take it apart like you said again and tighten it if it lets you. if it doesnt work let me know and i have an 18v that i could take apart now and see if i can explain something better to you. give me a few days thanks.

yeh it works fine and on hammer can still drill bricks except when i hid something tough. for example when i hold the chuck to loosen it if i keep a hold of it, the tork will kick in eventually. what do you mean by stripped?
its really not that old got it from a mate who doesn't know what to do with it he was going to throw it out. i always make sure i use sharp bits. i have had it open and the cogs inside look fine. i am probably not explaining it well it doesn't stop the clutch kicks in even on drill and hammer mode and you get the rachet noise. do you think if i take it apart again and turn the torque setting bit around a couple of times (if it will go) to tighten it up or do you think it needs a new clutch or gear?
yeh i've taken it apart i'am used to this have got quite a few tools that i have to take apart and clean to keep them in good working order e.g nail guns and battery drills. the only thing that i coud see is that the transmission part internally has a few cogs to it and their is a hole throw it. when i manually turn these cogs the move aside not only around i was wondering ifv their was a nut and bolt missing from the centre? any help would be appreciated.
sounds like it may be stripped does it work on any other settings?
The clutch is activated by the transmission and when that happens you replace the transmision. With the cost it's not worth trying to repair the transmission.
