Do you have a USB cable that goes from the monitor to the PC? Have you tried plugging the external drive into the PC directly? A TV for a monitor is just that; a monitor. It's not a PC, the USB port on a monitor is just a pass through to the PC. So unless you have a USB cable from the monitor to the PC it won't "see" it.

usb port in this tv-monitor is for external drives or usb sticks, so that you can see pictures or listen mp3's etc... It has nothing to do with pc. Thank you for your help!

Dug a little deeper on it. Make sure you are plugging it into the "USB IN" port , If it still doesn't "see" it have you tried plugging it into a PC just to make sure the drive is good? Also, that TV is 3 years old, and there is a very good chance it does not support a drive as large as 500GB. If anything, try copying some of the files from that drive, to a regular 16GB or 32GB stick, then plug the stick in to see if it will "see" the format the files are in.

If it's the power adapter then a simple search of the internet should show you where to go to find one. The other problem is that the HDD may be bad. You'd have to open the case, remove the HDD then connect it to your computer. I'm sure this would void the warrenty. However if it is the HDD then you saved yourselp the cost of a power supply.

Cyclic redundancy error with my HDD WD 500gb - used on a Samsung TV32eh54. I kept the HDD plugged into TV for several weeks, Might this be the problem?

Hiii friends,
I too had lost some of my files from WD hard drive recently. So in order to recover data from WD hard drive I used WD Caviar Hard Drive Recovery, which scans entire hard drive within few minutes and retrieves each and every file. You can download it from internet for trial usage.

I am using SuperDuper to clone my 160GB MacBook Hard Drive to a 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. My problem is that I cannot determine why neither the SuperDuper program nor the MacBook itself...

The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB hard drive is formatted for PC, not Mac. The simplest way to get your MacBook to recognize this new drive--and therefore copy the files from your old drive--is to plug it in to a PC and format the drive. I was advised to format with FAT 16, as this would be recognized by my MacBook. Fortunately, the process was not that involved, since the Vista-driven PC found the drivers for the WD Scorpio Blue automatically. Once formatted, I safely removed the drive and plugged it into my MacBook via a USB port using a BYTECC Drive Mate. Magically, it now appeared on my MacBook Desktop and was recognized by the cloning software I was using, SuperDuper. Three hours later, the files on my old hard drive were successfully cloned onto the Scorpio Blue--except now I had an additional 364GB of storage space. Swapping out the old drive and replacing it with the new was not a big deal at all--just make sure you have the right screwdriver for the last task--a Torx #6. Mission accomplished.
