Volume will go up on its own, and will not come down. It is not the remote, and I unplugged the set for several days to reset. Intermittent at first, now goes up immediately, and neither remote or controls on TV have any effect. What is the part responsible? Advice?

I have this EXACT SAME problem with my Insignia 26" LCD TV. I was three weeks out of warranty when it happened and Insignia wouldn't do anything to help me. I brought it to three repair shops and each repairman said that they couldn't guarantee they could fix it even IF they got the right parts. Anyhow, the TV repairman had it for three months (getting parts shipped from Asia, repair time, etc.) and he couldn't fix it. He also told me that tons of other people have the issue and that Insignia is replacing their TVs under warranty. So, if your TV is still under warranty, call Insignia. You just have to pay for shipping and shipping insurance. Hope this helps!
SOURCE: No control either by remote or manual.
Unplug your tv for at LEAST 4 hours. By doing this you are doing what we call a "master reset", the processor and memory inside are reset.
Let me know what has changed so I can further assist you from there.
The power surges have probably blown the fuse in the power supply board. This may not be the only problem. If you are still under warranty, you will need to have it serviced at a service center. If not You will need to find a repair person or center to open the unit and test it for you. This television and all your electronic equipment should be protected with surge protectors. The reason is your power company has problem with power outages and this will damage your equipment. There is no built in self defense for this equipment due to the huge variants involved with power companies. You should call Insignia and ask them where you can find a authorized service center. You can call the Insignia customer support at this telephone number 1-877-467-4289. Tell them the model number of your television and the problem you have had with its failure to turn on.They will be able to help you find a service center to test and repair your television. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

A variety of remote control codes can be found at InsigniaProducts.com. Failing that, try codes for the following brands: Orion, Emerson, Memorex, Sansui, Sylvania, Zenith.
Hi,
The easiest way is to reset the TV. There are 3 possible resets for this TV. press and hold Action and Power on the TV until self check appears-- then unplug the TV wait for 30 sec. then plug back in. The reset should take care of any channel lock/ game guard settings
Also Volume down on unit and sleep on remote. Same process wait for self check then unplug for 30 sec. plug back in and turn on.
Last Volume down on the unit and RH-Split on the remote-- same process
hope this will be helpfull.
Please rates me .

Panasonic sets need to be reset to clear the v-chip settings. To do this, put it in standby mode, then press the POWER and ACTION buttons at the same time and then turn the power off. The set should reset to the factory defaults, and reset the v-chip
