Hello Nigel,
Try to set the proxy in the browser.
Open Google chrome >>To the right of the address bar at the end is a wrench type icon click on it >>Almost at the bottom of the list it says options click it >> click on the tab that says "under the hood" >> next click the button that Change proxy settings >> in the next box that pops up click on "never dial a connection" >> next click on the LAN button >> next ensure that all check boxes are clear, with no check marks in them click OK >> then click OK again that should bring you back to the Google chrome options box >> click close
Then close out chrome now wait about 10 to 15 seconds to allow for chrome to recognize the new settings >> Reopen chrome and you should be able to use it just fine.
I hope this solution will helpful for you.

    Thanks, Bheshaj. I honestly would've never thought to check and see if proxies were active on my Chromebook. This helped fix so many problems I was having with installing from Google Play, and certain applications, as well.

    I will say the process to manage proxy settings has changed a bit. Now, from the Google Chrome window, you would click on the three dots in the top right, then select Settings. From there, click Network > [Connection Type (Wi-Fi)] > [Preferred Network/Access Point] > Proxy

I was able to use facebook before but not been able to use it for the last 3 days.....there was some problem with my google chrome so i downloaded mozilla & IE8...nothing worked but.....everything else...

Hmh weird. Well first off I recommend downloading CCleaner, once it's installed, close your browsers and press the "clean" button. This will clear your cache and cookies and chances are that this will help.
I have seen a few other people on this site being unable to access facebook, however google tells me that there isn't some major problem anywhere and it also works fine for me so I think it's safe to say that it's somehow related to your computer.

I hope I was able to help. If I was please don't forget to rate my solution.

Error 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED): Proxy server connection failed. a virus hit me how do i retrieve google chrome? and gmail?

The error that you get indicates more of a proxy problem than a virus problem. If you are behind a proxy, you have to have this added to your Chrome shortcut, in the Target field after the location of Chrome: --proxy-server="proxy:port" where proxy is the address of your proxy and the port is the port number.

If you think there's a virus, follow instructions from here to clean your computer from viruses http://www.fixya.com/support/r7263144-clean_computer_from_viruses

Once you cleaned up your PC, if your copy of Chrome is still corrupt, or it's not working, try to remove it and install it again. Here's a link to the download page http://www.google.com/chrome

Google chrome will not connect to the internet, I can not go to any web site, it says the webpage is unavailable. It gives me this error message: Error 336 (net::ERR_NO_SUPPORTED_PROXIES): Unknown error.

Go to Options under the hood tab, There you will find the "change proxy settings" button. Click on that and go to "LAN Settings" button, and see if the "use proxy server" box is checked or not. If so, un-check it, and save the changes.Restart the browser , It should work after that.
Good luck
If this helps you resolve your problem, please
consider giving me a good rating and a quick
"thanks" or "good job".It will help me as well.
Thank you.

SearchSource=10&ctid=CT2269050 Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error. wat to do????

Webpage display issues: "This webpage is not available" (Network errors 2, 102, 104, and 105) Issue This message displays when Google Chrome is unable to find and load the requested web page.
Solutions Check your web address and Internet connection Double-check the URL in the address bar to make sure you're going to the right web address. If you've confirmed that you're going to the right web address, check whether you can open the same web page in another browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. If you can't see the web page in any browser, the web page may be temporarily down. You should also make sure you're properly connected to the Internet.
Check the error you're receiving If you can load the web page using another browser, but not Google Chrome, check the exact error you're getting by clicking the More information on this error link on the page. The rest of the solutions listed in this article are relevant if you're experiencing any of the following errors:
  • Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error
  • Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED)
  • Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED)
  • Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED):
  • Unknown error
To disable the proxy run this from the command line or modify your shortcut to run chrome:

"C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --proxy-server
See here: http://tiny.cc/A2tST

Encountering this problem following your first restart after installing Privoxy (which requires changing G-Chrome's proxy settings).
If, after installing Privoxy, you elected not to have it load on system startup, manually re-loaded Privoxy. Simply reconfigure Privoxy to load on startup and the problem should be corrected.
