This would be one of a few different things, first check to make sure the belt is on properly and hasnt came off any pulleys, next check the clutch relay and fuse, next check the pto switch, and if all those check out, check the clutch for engagement, if it tries to engage with pto switch, then it may just need adjusted, if it doesn't try to engage, the clutch will need replaced, but check the other possible causes first.

SOURCE: Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

SOURCE: I HAVE A CUB CADET 50 INCH CUT ZERO TURN, WHEN YOU

Most likely a short. You have to look in the area where engage switch gets blades going. You will find a cut wire or wires that are touching metal. This will kill a battery very quick. Fix wire , tie up wire so this doesn't happen again, and off you go. GOOD LUCK.

Why aren't the blades engaging all the time?

Faulty connection or partially broken wire, from ignition to blade engage switch or from engage switch to electric clutch.

How to replace mower belt for ZTR cub cadet mower

Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

I hit a metal pipe with my cub cadet zero turn lawn mower today. Now it smokes under the deck when I engage the blades and it is not cutting the grass. Have I ruined my mower?

You'll need to look under the deck w/ the mower not running and see why the blades aren't turning. Most likely something is bent (maybe blade) and hitting something. The smoke is probably from the belt slipping and getting hot.

Cub cadet rzt 50, hit stump, blades wont engage but not bent

The blades on this cub cadet are activated with air pressure. Chances are that when you hit that stump, you either blew a fuse or the control module that allows the blades to spin. Begin by checking the fuses. J.
