I have an 8 year old panasonic 29 inch standard tv. the problem is once in a while you are watching tv and the screen goes to a single horizontal line. You can continue to hear the sound but can't see much. turning off the tv for 10 minutes solves it. Is this tv worth fixing and what would it cost?

Vertical scan output section circuit fault. Horizontal line problem. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Absence of 'Blue' is the fault. Check all the solder terminals to its video output card. This card can be located at the base of the CRT itself, will directly plugged on to its back. The line is there because the vertical deflection unit - the one that spreads that line across the entire screen to form the image - has failed. Replacing it is a job for a professional, or at least an experienced amateur, and the parts will be quite difficult to find for such an old tv .
Hello Barbara76,
Is this a Horizontal line (inch or two) across the screen, if so
the fault could be either a faulty Vertical IC,Faulty Electrolytic
capacitors or just simple dry joints.
Usually there is a capacitor in the pump up circuit and/or an IC in the vertical circuit that causes this problem.
