Why does close-caption appear on screen eac time I turn it on.

It is so hard to be rid of close caption. I have checked he menu and all
'it shows is "Close Cation" but does not indicate the best way to get rid of it like a button on the remoe instead of having to go to the menu.

On your remote control find the CCD button and press it until you find the option to turn off the closed caption or select the closed caption option to use only when the sound is muted. If this does not eliminate the problem, you may have a switching problem in the control panel.Try turning off your television for a period of time and then turn it on and try resetting the control. If this fails you may want to contact customer service for technical help at 1-877-467-4289. Hope this helps you with your problem.

How do you get rid of closed caption?

Depending of what model of TV you have, the option to turn off the Closed Captioning is usually found in the MAIN MENU under the heading of AUDIO OPTIONS.

Look in the AUDIO OPTIONS menu and try to find where it says CAPTION VISION, or CC1, or CC2, or XDS, or TEXT1, or something similar for the display setting, then switch that to OFF.

Otherwise look on your remote control for a button to turn off the Closed Captioning (CC).
It may be a button called DISPLAY, and you just press that repeatedly until DISPLAY OFF appears on the screen.

If you provide the exact MODEL NUMBER for your TV next time in your question, more precise instructions can be provided in order to help you out.

Good luck.

Okay, have Hitachi 1080 HD. Called several times to Customer Service but they couldnt help. Cannot get the words in English to appear on screen for hard of hearing.

Look in the tv menu for SET UP or AUDIO options.

Look for CAPTION VISION and set to CC1.

Now exit the menu screen.

Now use the INFO or DISPLAY button on the remote to activate the closed captioning.

It should say something like CC1 ON once you get it right.

That should be about it.
Note that not every single channel has closed captioning for every single show and that the words usually take a few seconds to show up on the screen when you change to a new channel.

Good luck, hope this helps. Keep us updated on your progress.

Closed Captioning on HD channels

We had the exact same problem just yesterday when we bought our Sony 46" Bravia LCD. Nobody, neither Comcast Cable or Sony seemed to really know how to get rid of the closed caption at first and we did have a Motorola box - the box is the problem, not the tv. Here is step-by-step instructions that worked for us. 1. While TV is on, power DCT (Digital Cable Terminal) off 2. Press and hold "menu" button on digital terminal (the screen below will appear) 3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption" 4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Disabled 5. Press "ok-select" 6. When done, press "power" to exit menu 7. Press "power" again to turn DCT on If you go through these steps slowly, you should have a caption-free screen!
