LG 42PX4DV - HDMI Audio / PC Audio IN problem

I've just connected my new laptop to my LG 42PX4DV and can view the picture fine. However, I've just discovered that my laptop does not support HDMI audio (only video). I tried using a 3.5mm jack out of the laptop headphone jack to the TV Audio IN 3.5mm jack to get sound for movie viewing. However, HDMI overrides the 3.5mm TV Audio IN and I can't get any sound if the HDMI cable is plugged in. The sound works through the TV if the HDMI cable is unplugged. i.e. I can have sound without video OR video without sound. Are there any TV options (or upgrades) that get around this? I just want to be able to watch HDMI with sound. It doesn't have to be HDMI sound. Thanks.

I have an LG LCD model 42L30 that displays video fine with a 3 meter HDMI cable but there is no audio. I tried multiple hdmi inputs with the same result. This is connected to a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista. I don't have another hdmi device or cable to test further.

I found the fix. Had the same problem.
I right clicked on the sound speaker icon in the bottom right of Windows 7.
Chose Playback Devices.
Once this window opens, then make sure you are on the Playback tab.
Scroll down until you see the HDMI Device. (Mine was hidden at the bottom of the list.)
Then choose "set as default".
The sound will begin playing on the TV with only the HDMI connected......no need for an extra audio cable.

One quick fix you can try. plug in the HDMI cable, slect a digital audio sound output from the sound settings on your machine, then leave it connected and restart it. It just might work.

Yamaha HTR-5063 is connected with new LG smart TV with HDMI. Today no picture or sound on TV. How to fix it ?

First, you need to identify which box the problem is in. Does the TV work with other inputs? If not, problem in TV. If it does, then the problem is in the Yamaha.
Once you know where the problem is, you can proceed to fixing what's broken.

Hdmi wont connect to hdmi on laptop - shows lg screen on laptop with no model number but shows no signal on tv

Hi andy838,

I see that you LG LCD HDTV is giving you a No Signal message on the Screen.

see steps Below on finding out what will show video on your LCD HDTV.

* First make sure that the HDMI cable is connected to your Laptop to the HDTV LG.
* On your TV check your remote control and look for the input or Source Button, this will help you set your TV for the HDMI connection.
* Once set, turn your Laptop on and see if the HDTV will provide Video from the Laptop to your HDTV using HDMI.
* I believe that works right, now we have video still we need to set the Audio to work from you Laptop using HDMI to your HDTV.
* On your Laptop lower right side look for your speaker icon, right click on the speaker icon then select Playback Devices.
* Once you've selected Playback Devices you will see a window showing you a list of devices and the first one on the list will be you HDMI connection right click on it and select set as default device this will make your audio work on your HDMI to your TV.
* Once audio to HDMI is set and you want to go back to your Laptop just set the speakers as the default device this will set your speakers have the Audio working again on the Laptop.

I hope that this will help you regarding your concern.

Have a nice day,

I HAVE TRYED CONNECTING MY HDMI LEAD FROM MY COMPAC LAPTOP TO MY LG TV I AM GETTING PICTURE BUT NO SOUND CAN ANY ONE HELP

You need to connect an audio patch cord between the laptop and the TV. Use the headphone jack on the laptop (3.5 mm M). Check your LG TV manual for the correct audio in on the TV. (Usually it is next to the VGA port if the TV has that PC input.) Computers do not send sound on the HDMI video output.

I hope this helps.
