Our company installs TVs as digital marketing displays. Cleaning a TV today is not hard to do, you just need to know the basics. Sprays like windex or other chemicals should never be used.
Why they say to use Deionized water is because its not abrasive. Deionized water is... water that has had almost all of its mineral ions removed, like sodium, calcium, iron, and copper etc. An LED screen is a soft material that can easily scratch. Usually the marks are only seen when the TV is off.
We use a special product that anyone can buy as long as you know where to buy them. You can't purchase them at any store that I know of... Its called an Optic Scarf! I was asked to test it and IT WORKS!
After trying everything, this seems to be the best, I've found.
We use it to clean our computers, cell phones, IPADS, IPODS, sun glasses and just about anything else that I don't want to scratch the screen or apply an potentially abrasive cleaner too.
We purchase ours from www.ChristineFrey.Norwex.biz
I have a lcd tv that has a few black dots but it may be from a similar cause. During a move the screen was rubbed against i was wiping the screen later and picked a small piece of plastic off the screen. The moral is... the screens are sensitive to the touch and you should be carefull how you clean it. When i bought my tv i also bought a spray of deionized water. There must be reasons behind why we can't use windex or other chemicals on a screen these days.
